ALDERSHOT, UK – Jack Pinnington-Jones was unseeded and claimed the singles title. James Davis & Matthew Summers were the second seeds and took the doubles title.
Jack Pinnington-Jones entered the ITF event and was unseeded. In the first round the Brit was against qualifier Matthew Summers. Pinnington-Jones dominated from the outset. The higher ranked Brit eased through the first set and took the lead. Summers was unable to fight back in the second, as Pinnington-Jones continued the dominating form. Pinnington-Jones moved into the next round 6-2, 6-2.
In the second round Pinnington-Jones was against eighth seed Henry Searle. The unseeded Brit dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set was much closer, as Searle stayed with Pinnington-Jones and looked to be forcing a tiebreak. However, just as it looked to be heading that way, the unseeded Brit broke serve and moved into the next round 6-2, 7-5.
The quarter-final saw Pinnington-Jones against Johannus Monday. The first set was fairly close, as both Brits battled hard. Eventually, Pinnington-Jones got the break of serve and took the lead. The second set was easier for Pinnington-Jones who dominated and moved into the next round 6-4, 6-2.
In the semi-final the Brit was against the third seed Blake Mott. The Australian was no match for the Brit who dominated from the outset. Pinnington-Jones didn’t put a foot wrong and didn’t drop a game all match. No matter what Mott tried he was unable to get into the match. The Brit moved into the final 6-0, 6-0.
The final saw the Brit against American qualifier Murphy Cassone. The American was no match for Pinnington-Jones in the first set. The Brit didn’t drop a game to move into the lead. The second set was much closer, as Cassone started to find his range and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker, Pinnington-Jones eased through and took the match in straight sets 6-0, 7-6(3).
Doubles
James Davis & Matthew Summers were the second seeds. In the first round the Brits were against Tom Hands & Harry Wendelken. The first round was very close, with the seeds being pushed hard. Hands & Wendelken looked to be forcing a tiebreak, before the seeds broke through and took the lead. The second set saw Davis & Summers break early and move on to the next round in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
The quarter-final saw the second seeds against James Beaven & Felix Mischker. The seeds dominated the match from the outset. Davis & Summers lost only one game in the first set to take the lead. Beaven & Mischker were unable to fight back in the second set. The seeds eased through in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
In the semi-final Davis & Summers were against Ewen Lumsden & James Story. The seeds broke early in the first set to take the lead. Lumsden & Story struggled to stay with the seeds. The second set saw Davis & Summers dominate and once again, they moved into the next round in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
The final saw the Brits against fourth seeds Masamichi Imamura & Naoki Tajima. The Japanese pair got the better start and broke the serve of the Brits to take the lead. The second set saw Davis & Summers re-group and break serve to level up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak. This was very close. Neither pair gave an inch, but eventually, it was the Brits that secured the break and took the match 4-6, 6-3, 12-10.
