Jack Draper [13] def Jenson Brooksby [PR] 7-5 6-4
Jack Draper is into the fourth round of Indian Wells for the second time in his career after a straight sets win over Jenson Brooksby. Although it was a straight sets win, the match was far from easy for Draper with the British number one going down 3-0 as Brooksby produced some aggressive tennis on return.
There was some confident hitting from Brooksby who was authoritative in his play and approached the net in order to rush Draper’s play. Eventually Draper got on the scoreboard and fended off more pressure from the American to gradually gain confidence on serve. As the set went on, Brooksby lacked consistency as he got more passive with Draper earning the break back as he would level the set at 4-4.
The match was turning into a high-quality, physical contest as both players went toe-to-toe from the baseline. In the end, Draper won the key points and broke on his third break point of the eleventh game to take a crucial 6-5 lead. There was no looking back from a clinical Draper as he wrapped up the opening set with an ace.
In the second set both players was serving confidently as there was very little to separate the two teams. Neither player created anything on return with the serving getting more aggressive and Draper getting frustrated as the set went on. However, Draper wasn’t frustrated for long as he produced a perfect return game to break to love for a 4-3 lead.
A clinical performance was wrapped up as Draper comfortably served out the match and booked his place into the last 16 in California.

Playing Styles and Prediction
After a great end to last season, Fritz hasn’t lived up to expectations so far this season as the American has only won back-to-back matches at one event this year and that was at the Australian Open. After overcoming a tough test against Alejandro Tabilo, Fritz will now hope to improve his game as he looks to replicate his title winning success from 2022.
Draper will need to be aggressive on the forehand side as the British number one looks to be clinical on return. Meanwhile Fritz will use the serve to neutralise Draper’s efficiency on return as he looks to step in on his backhand. This is set to be another close encounter with Draper’s current form giving him the edge in this contest.
Prediction: Draper in three sets.
