After a poor start to the season, Medvedev has finally found his confidence and form as he looks happy on a tennis court once again.
Medvedev will hope his form can continue with a third consecutive Indian Wells final in his sights as there is hope he can have a successful season once again.
Next for Medvedev is Rune who has also had a mixed season but a few good wins has seen him into the final four in California.
Since winning his only Masters 1000 title in Paris-Bercy a few years ago, Rune is yet to fulfil his potential and is now hoping Indian Wells could be the start of something special.
Speaking after his quarter-final win, Medvedev spoke about his celebration and how tennis is a sport about confidence.
“If I would make a winner on match point, I would probably be less excited,” Medvedev admitted to the ATP website.
“Because I was surprised, I thought the point is over and we go again, and he missed it. It happens. I was surprised, and that got my adrenaline too much. I couldn’t control it!
“I lost three very tight matches this year, two of which I was really close to winning — Tien and Griekspoor. The more you lose matches like this, the more you lose confidence in these tight moments.
“I remember one time in 2018, I was surprised, I didn’t follow the statistics, but I had like 20 tie-breaks won in a row, something like this. This is a matter of confidence. Sometimes you are; sometimes you are not.”
Meanwhile Rune reflected on his career and spoke about feeling privileged to play the sport he loves.
“Deep down, I play the sport for myself and to make myself happy and this is because what I love, but as I [like to] say, to inspire other people inspire kids to go for their dream,” Rune told the ATP website.
“I feel so privileged that I could do what I wanted to do. I think not every person can do that. And I think if you have a big dream, you should go for it. It sounds very simple, but sometimes it’s not the easiest to do.
“But just go for it. If you fail, who cares, you can just try another thing and try again and again and again until you make it. I believe there are no superheroes or superhumans in this world. So if many ATP, WTA players can make it, I believe that people out there can make it as well.”
Medvedev will look to be consistent from the baseline, using the forehand to extract errors from Rune’s game.
Meanwhile Rune will aim to be aggressive on serve, using the backhand to move Medvedev out of position on the court.
This will be a physical match full of long rallies and consistent power with Medvedev’s improved confidence giving him the slight edge in this match.
Prediction: Medvedev in three sets.
