ILKLEY, UK – Sonay Kartal & Ella McDonald both entered the ITF event. Kartal was a wildcard & McDonald came through qualifying. Both made the quarter-final before being defeated.
Ella McDonald and Sonay Kartal both entered the W100. McDonald came through qualifying to make the main draw. In the first round the Brit was against seventh seed Arianne Hartono. McDonald stayed with the seed in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker, McDonald edged through and took the lead. The second set saw Hartono re-group and fight back. The Brit looked to be forcing another tiebreak, however, the seed broke serve right at the end to level up the match. The qualifier dominated the final set and moved into the next round 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-2.
The second round saw McDonald against another qualifier Lanlana Tararudee. The Thai stayed with the Brit in the first set, forcing a tiebreak. In this breaker it was Tararudee that edged through and took the lead. However, McDonald re-grouped in the second set. Breaking the Thai, McDonald levelled up the match. The final set saw the Brit dominate and storm through to the next round 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-1.
In the quarter-final McDonald was against Jessika Ponchet. The Frenchwoman and the Brit went toe to toe at the start of the first set. However, eventually, the Brit was broken and Ponchet took the lead. The second set saw the Frenchwomen dominate and break McDonald at will. Ponchet moved into the next round 7-5, 6-1.
Sonay Kartal was given a wildcard into the main draw. In the first round the Brit was against qualifier Destanee Aiava. The first set saw Kartal break serve and take the lead. The second set was much closer, as both would not give an inch. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued. In the breaker the Brit edged through and took the match in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4).
In the second round Kartal was against eighth seed Yuriko Lily Miyazaki. The wildcard dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set was a little closer. Eventually, Kartal managed to break serve and Miyazaki was unable to break back. Kartal moved into the next round 6-2, 6-4.
The quarter-final saw Kartal against Kimberly Birrell. The Australian and the Brit went toe to toe in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker, the Australian edged through and took the lead. The second set was also very close. Once again, it looked to be heading to a tiebreak. Unfortunately, Birrell broke right at the end of the set and took the match 7-6(4), 7-5.

Hannah Klugman was defeated by Chloe Paquet in the first round 6-2, 7-6(6).
Mingge Xu was defeated by Lanlana Tararudee in the first round 6-1, 6-4.
Felix Gill was defeated by Dominic Striker in the first round 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-1.
Brooke Black & Sally Pethybridge were defeated by Arianne Hartono & Prarthana G Thombare in the first round 6-2, 7-5.
Madeleine Brooks & Mingge Xu were defeated by Lauryn John-Baptiste & Given Roach in the first round 7-6(3), 4-6, 13-11.
Jay Clarke & Marcus Willis were defeated by Tristan Schoolkate & John-Patrick Smith in the first round 6-4, 6-4.
Joshua Paris & Ryan Peniston were defeated by Marcus Daniell & Matwe Middlekoop in the first round 6-4, 6-4.
Amarni Banks was defeated by Jessika Ponchet in the second round 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Ranah Akua Stoiber was defeated by Rebecca Marino in the second round 6-1, 7-6(0).
Lauryn John-Baptiste & Given Roach were defeated by Carmen Corley & Ivana Corley in the quarter-final 6-3, 7-5.
Luke Johnson with N. Sriram Balaji were defeated by Marcus Daniell & Matwe Middlekoop in the quarter-final 7-6(3), 6-4.
