Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Tara Moore runner up in WTA Bogota

BOGOTA, COLUMBIA – Tara Moore and Emina Bektas made the final of the WTA event and were unseeded. The Brit/American only dropped one set en route to the final.

Tara Moore and Emina Bektas teamed up for the WTA 250 event. The Brit/American pair were unseeded. Their first round match was against Rebeca Pereira & Barbara Gatica. The Brazilian/Chilean pair stayed with Moore & Bektas at the start of the first set, however, the Brit/American secured the break of serve to move ahead. The second set saw the Brit/American pairing dominate Pereira & Gatica to book a spot in the quarter-final 6-3, 6-2.

In the quarter-final the Brit/American pair were against Andrea Gamiz & Carolina Rodrigues Alves. The Venezuelan/Brazilian stayed toe to toe with Moore & Bektas in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker it was Gamiz & Rodrigues Alves that dominated and took the lead. The second set saw the Brit/American re group. Moore & Bektas secured a vital break of serve to level up the match. In the match tiebreak, the Brit/American edged ahead and then didn’t look back. Moore & Bektas progressed to the next round 6-7(2), 6-4, 10-5.

The semi-final saw the Brit/American against Yuliana Lizarazo & Maria Herazo Gonzalez. The Columbians stayed with Moore & Bektas at the start of the set, before the Brit/American secured the break of serve needed to get ahead. The second set was much closer as Lizarazo & Herazo Gonzalez fought hard and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker Moore & Bektas edged through to take the win and move into the final 6-4, 7-5.

In the final Moore & Bektas were against unsseded pair Aldila Sutjiadi & Astra Sharma. The Brit/American made the better start, and broke the Indonesian /Australian to take the lead. The second set saw Sutjiadi & Sharma fight back, breaking the Brit/American to level up the match.  A very tight match tiebreak followed, with the match flowing one way then the other. Unfortunately, Sutjiadi & Sharma just edged out Moore & Bektas and claimed the title 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.

Doubles Round Up

Samantha Murray-Sharan with Julia Wachaczyk were defeated by Valentini Grammatikopoulou & Amina Anshiba in the first round in Bogota 7-6(9), 6-3.

Lloyd Glasspool with Harri Heliovaara were defeated by Marco Cecchinato & Lorenzo Musetti in the first round in Marrakech 6-4, 1-6, 10-7.

James Markiewicz with Jannik Opitz were defeated by Filiip Bergevi & Patrik Niklas Salminen in the quarter-final in Sharm-El-Sheikh 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Andreas Scott & Josef Southcombe were defeated by Arthur Bouquier & Martin Breysach in the first round in Monastir 6-3, 6-2.

Luc Koenig with Wissam Abderrahman were defeated by Li Zhe & Yunchaokete Bu in the quarter-final in Monastir 6-4, 6-3.

Charles Broom with Constantin Frantzen defeated Li Zhe & Yunchaokete Bu in the final in Monastir 7-5, 2-6, 10-8.

Jodie Burrage & Yuriko Lily Miyazaki were defeated by Anna Sinclair Rogers & Christina Rosca in the quarter-final in Pretoria 7-6(2), 6-1.

Next Week Brits play in Monte Carlo, St Louis Potosi, Nottingham, Italy, USA, Tunisia, Prague, France & Portugal.
