- Top seeds only dropped two sets en route
‘S-HERTOGENBOSH, NETHERLANDS – Neal Skupski with Welsey Koolhof were the top seeds at the ATP 250 event. The Brit/Dutch pair claimed the title only dropping two sets along the way.
Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof were the top seeds in the ATP event. The Brit/Dutch pair drew wildcard Dutch pair Matwe Middelkoop & Bart Stevens. The Dutch pair got the better start, and broke serve to take the lead. However, Skupski & Koolhof re-grouped in the second set. Forcing a tiebreak the top seeds eased through the breaker to level up the match. The match tiebreak was a close affair, but the top seeds managed to edge through to take the win 4-6, 7-6(4), 10-7.
The quarter-final saw the top seeds against American pairing Nathaniel Lammons & Jackson Withrow. Skupski & Koolhof forced a tiebreak in the first set, which they eased through and took the lead. The second set saw the Americans fight back, forcing a tiebreak. This breaker saw Lammons & Withrow edge through to level up the match. The match tiebreak was much easier for Skupsi & Koolhof who eased through to take the win 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 10-3.
In the semi-final the top seeds were against Fabrice Martin & Maxime Cressy. Skupski & Koolhof were too good for the French/American pair and dominated the first set. The second set was more of the same. No matter what Martin & Cressy tried the Brit/Dutch pair were equal to. Skupski & Koolhof dominated the second set as well and took the win 6-2, 6-2.
The final saw the top seeds against unseeded pair Gonzalo Escobar & Aleksandr Nedovyesov. The Ecuadorian/Kazakh stayed with Skupski & Koolhof in the first set and forced a tiebreak. However, the top seeds dominated the breaker, losing only one point to take the lead. The second set saw the seeds experience come through as they dominated the set and lifted the title 7-6(1), 6-2.
