Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Salisbury & Murray claim ATP 250 titles in Lyon & Geneva

LYON, FRANCE – Joe Salisbury with Rajeev Ram claimed the ATP 250 doubles title, the pair were top seeds. Jamie Murray with Michael Venus took the title in Geneva.

ATP/WTA

Joe Salisbury with Rajeev Ram entered the ATP event and were the top seeds. The first round saw the Brit/American against Sam Weissborn & Romain Arneodo. The top seeds started well, but were broken by Weissborn & Arneodo who then took the lead. The second set though, saw the top seeds fight back and level up the match. The match tiebreak saw the Brit/American storm ahead and take the match 4-6, 6-3, 10-4.

In the quarter-final the top seeds were against Aleksandr Nedovyesov & Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela. Just like in the first round the top seeds were broken and Nedovyesov & Reyes-Varela took the lead. The second set saw Salisbury & Ram re-group and break Nedovyesov & Reyes-Varela to level up the match. The ensuing match tiebreak saw the top seeds edge through and take the match 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

The semi-final saw the top seeds against Albano Olivetti & Nicolas Barrientos. The first set was very close, as neither pairing gave an inch and a tiebreak ensued. Salisbury & Ram edged through and took the lead. The second set was much easier for the Brit/American as they broke serve. The top seeds took the match in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3.

In the final the top seeds were against third seeds Nicolas Mahut & Matwe Middelkoop. Salisbury & Ram dominated the first set and didn’t drop a game. Mahut & Middelkoop were unable to hold serve. The second set was slightly closer as the third seeds held serve. However, eventually, the top seeds broke serve and lifted the title in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.

 

ATP Geneva

Jamie Murray & Michael Venus entered the 250 event in Geneva and were the fourth seeds. In the first round the Brit/Kiwi were against Spanish pair Bernabe Zapata Miralles & Roberto Carballes Baena. Murray & Venus had little trouble with the Spaniards and broke serve to take the lead. The second set saw the seeds dominate and move into the next round 6-3, 6-2.

The quarter-final saw the fourth seeds against Alexander Erler & Lucas Miedler. The Austrians stayed close in the first set, before Murray & Venus broke to take the lead. The second set was dominated by the seeds, as Erler & Miedler struggled on serve. The Brit/Kiwi eased into the next round 6-4, 6-1.

In the semi-final the fourth seeds were against Fabrice Martin & Simone Bolelli. Murray & Venus dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set saw Martin & Bolelli re-group and break the seeds to level up the match. The ensuing match tiebreak saw the seeds edge through and take the win 6-1, 3-6, 10-6.

The final saw the fourth seeds against the third seeds Marcel Granollers & Horacio Zeballos. The first set was a tough battle, as Murray & Venus forced a tiebreak. The breaker saw the Brit/Kiwi edge through and take the lead. The second set was more of the same and went to another tiebreak. This breaker was much easier for the third seeds, who eased through and took the title 7-6(6), 7-6(3).

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Henry Patten & Julian Cash were defeated by Mate Pavic & Nikola Mektic in the first round in Geneva 7-6(4), 6-3.

Stuart Parker with Jakub Paul defeated Ondrej Horak & Daniel Siniakov in the final in Most 6-3, 6-2.

Soumeya Anane with Ashmitha Easwaramurthi were defeated by Julie Belgraver & Victoria Gomez in the first round in Malaga 6-3, 4-6, 10-2.

Emma Wilson with Nicole Fossa Huergo were defeated by Matilda Mutavdzic & Marine Szostak in the first round in Malaga 7-6(5), 6-4.

Matilda Mutavdzic with Marine Szostak were defeated by Isabella Barrera Aguirre & Marina Benito in the quarter-final in Malaga 6-4, 7-5.

Aidan McHugh with Keegan Smith were defeated by Jesse Flores & Joshua Sheehy in the first round in Tabasco 6-7(12), 6-3, 12-10.

Ben Jones with Andrew Rogers were defeated by Lorenzo Esquici & Franco Ribero in the quarter-final in Huntsville 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Blu Baker with Sekou Bangoura were defeated by Elijah Strode & Isaiah Strode in the semi-final in Huntsville 0-0(RET).

Patrick Foley with Hillel Rousseau were defeated by Alexandr Cozbinov & Ilya Snitari in the first round in Monastir 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Alisha Reayer with Chen Meng Yi were defeated by Victoria Mikhaylova & Elizaveta Shebekina in the first round in Monastir 6-4, 6-1.

Isabelle Lacy with Taylah Preston were defeated by Lauryn John-Baptiste & Yasmine Mansouri in the first round in Monastir 6-1, 6-4.

Louis Allen & Freddy Blaydes were defeated by Ryuki Matsuda & Mu Tao in the quarter-final in Monastir 6-3, 7-6(5).

Lauryn John-Baptiste with Yasmine Mansouri defeated Lamis Alhussein Abdel Aziz & Sharmada Balu in the final in Monastir 6-3, 6-1.

Emily Appleton with Julia Lohoff defeated Sofya Lansere & Anna Siskova in the final in Grado 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.

Sarah Beth Grey & Eden Silva were defeated by Veronika Erjavec & Dominika Salkova in the semi-final in Otocec 6-7(4), 6-2, 10-6.

Emily Webley-Smith with Mariana Drazic were defeated by Veronika Erjavec & Dominka Salkova in the final in Otocec 7-5, 6-3.
