Joe Salisbury & Rajeev Ram were the double defending champions going into the 2023 US Open. The Brit/American had won the title back to back, but no pairing in the open era had won three times in a row. Salisbury & Ram were the third seeds at this years event.

In the first round, the Brit/American were against Italians Andrea Vavassori & Simone Bolelli. The seeds made light work of the first set, breaking early to take the lead. However, the second set was much closer as the Italians stayed with Salisbury & Ram forcing a tiebreak. In the breaker the seeds dominated and eased through to take the match in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(2).

The second round saw the seeds against Japanese pair Yoshihito Nishioka & Ben McLachlan. Just like in the previous round, the Brit/American broke quickly in the first set to take the lead. The second set was again very close, as the Japanese pair stayed with the seeds and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker the seeds edged through and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4).

In the third round Salisbury & Ram were against Mackenzie McDonald & Andreas Mies. The Brit/American started well, breaking the American/German pair to take the lead. The second set, though, saw the unseeded pair re-group. McDonald & Mies managed to break serve and level up the match. The final set saw the seeds dominate and secure a place in the next round 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

The quarter-final saw the Brit/American against the fifth seeds Maximo Gonzalez & Andreas Molteni. The Argentinians stayed close with Salisbury & Ram at the start of the first set, before the seeds managed to obtain the break of serve to take the lead. The second set was a little easier for the third seeds, as they broke early and the Argentines were unable to get back into the match. The third seeds moved into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

In the semi-final, the Brit/American were against the second seeds Ivan Dodig & Austin Krajicek. Salisbury & Ram stayed with the second seeds in the first set, which looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, the third seeds managed to secure the break of serve right at the end and took the lead. The second set saw Dodig & Krajicek re-group and break the serve of the Brit/American to level the match. The final set saw the third seeds get back on track, breaking the serve of the second seeds. Salisbury & Ram moved into the final 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

The final saw Salisbury & Ram against sixth seeds Matthew Ebden & Rohan Bopanna. The Australian/Indian pair dominated the first set and took the lead. The Brit/American re-grouped in the second set, breaking Ebden & Bopanna early to level up the match. The final set was fairly close, as neither pair could get the break at the start. However, the Brit/American managed to secure the vital break of serve and clinch their third US Open title 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Salisbury & Ram are the first pair in the open era to win three US Open men’s doubles titles in a row.
