Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Neal Skupski claims title in ATP Libema Open

‘S-HERTONGENBOSCH, NETHERLANDS – Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof entered the ATP 250 event and were the second seeds. The Brit/Dutch team lifted the title.

Neal Skupski & Wesley Koolhof teamed up for the event in Den Bosch and were the second seeds. In the first round they were against Julio Peralta & David Vega Hernandez. The Chilean/Spanish pair were no match for the Brit/Dutch pair in the first set. Skupski & Koolhof broke early and took the first set. The second set was much closer, Peralta & Vega Hernandez stayed toe to toe and forced a tiebreak. The seeds secured the edged through to take the win 6-3, 7-6 (5).

In the quarter-final the Brit/Dutch pair were against Mackenzie McDonald & Botic Van De Zandschulp. The second seeds were unable to break serve in the first set, and a tiebreak ensued. The American/Dutch pair took the breaker. The second set saw the Brits dominate and level up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak, Skupski & Koolhof edged through and booked a spot in the next round 6-7(4), 6-2, 14-12.

The semi-final saw Skupski/Koolhof against Robin Haase & Matwe Middelkoop. The Dutch pair were no match for the Brit/Dutch who broke early to take the lead. The second set saw the seeds dominate from the outset and soon had booked a spot in the final in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

In the final the Brit/Dutch were against the fourth seeds Australians Matthew Ebden & Max Purcell. The Australians got the jump on Skupski & Koolhof, and broke serve to take the lead. The second seeds fought back in the second set, breaking right at the end to level up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak. Skupski & Koolhof managed to get ahead and stay there, lifting the trophy 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.

Doubles Round Up

Alicia Barnett & Olivia Nicholls were defeated by Katarzyna Kawa & Aldila Sutjiadi in the first round in Nottingham 3-6, 7-5, 10-4.

Samantha Murray Sharan with Vivian Heisen were defeated by Monica Niculescu & Caroline Dolehide in the semi-final in Nottingham 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.

Emily Webley-Smith with Ingrid Gamarra Martins were defeated by Andreea Prisacarlu & Anita Wagner in the first round in Caserta 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.

Matilda Mutavdzic with Petra Marcinko were defeated by Melania Delal & Claudia Giovine in the first round in Caserta 6-3, 6-3.

Luc Keonig & Andreas Scott were defeated by Arthur Bouquier & Martin Breysach in the first round in Monastir 6-4, 6-0.

Alisha Reayer with Camila Romero were defeated by Kristina Milenkovic & Anja Wildgruber in the quarter-final in Monastir 6-3, 1-6, 16-14.

Abigail Amos with Arabella Koller were defeated by Wei Sijia & Yao Xinxin in the final in Monastir 6-0, 6-1.

Maia Lumsden with Arina Vasilescu were defeated by Vasanti Shinde & Nina Ugrelidze in the first round in Madrid 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Next Week Brits play in London, Ilkley, Corrientes, USA, Spain, France, Dominican Republic, Belgium, Israel, Tunisia & Birmingham.
