Jamie Murray with Michael Venus entered the ATP 1000 Masters in Madrid and were the eleventh seeds. In the first round the Brit/Kiwi were against Alexander Bublik & Denis Shapovalov. The Kazakh/Canadian pair stayed with the seeds at the start of the first set, before Murray & Venus broke serve to take the lead. The second set was easier for the seeds as they dominated and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

The second round saw Murray & Venus against Benjamin Hassan & Abdullah Shelbayh. The German/Jordanian pair stayed with the seeds at first. Eventually, the Brit/Kiwi broke serve and took the lead. The second set proved to be much closer, as both pairs couldn’t get the vital break. In the ensuing tiebreak, Murray & Venus edged ahead and took the win in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4).

In the quarter-final the Brit/Kiwi were against the sixteenth seeds Sadio Doumbia & Fabien Reboul. The French pair got off to the best start. Doumbia & Reboul dominated the first set, as Murray & Venus were unable to get on the board. The second set saw the eleventh seeds re-group and break the French pair to level up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak, which the Brit/Kiwi dominated and moved into the next round 0-6, 6-4, 10-2.

The semi-final saw Murray & Venus against Sebastian Korda & Jordan Thompson. The American/Australian pair found the seeds too good in the first set, as the Brit/Kiwi broke serve and took the lead. The second set saw the unseeded pair re-group and break serve to level up the match. The match tiebreak was very close, however, it was Korda & Thompson that edged through and into the final 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
