Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Lloyd Glasspool claims ATP 500 Hamburg doubles

HAMBURG, GERMANY – Lloyd Glasspool & Harri Heliovaara were unseeded. The Brit/Fin lifted the title, their first ATP 500.

Lloyd Glasspool & Harri Heliovaara once again paired up and entered the ATP 500 event in Germany. The Brit/Fin were unseeded. In the first round Glasspool & Heliovaara were against the second seeds Neal Skupski & Wesley Koolhof. The first set was very close, as both pairs went toe to toe. Eventually the unseeded pair got the break of serve and moved into the lead. The second set saw Glasspool & Heliovaara dominate as the second seeds struggled to hold serve. The Brit/Fin moved into the next round in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.

In the quarter-final the Brit/Fin were against Kevin Krawietz & Andreas Mies. The Germans found Glasspool & Heliovaara too strong in the first set. The Brit/Fin dominated to take the lead. The second set was much closer as Krawietz & Mies stayed with Glasspool & Heliovaara and forced a tiebreak. The tiebreak was all one way traffic as the Brit/Fin dominated and moved into the semi-final 6-1, 7-6(0).

The semi-final saw the Brit/Fin against the third seeds Michael Venus & Tim Puetz. The Kiwi/German pair managed to stay with Glasspool & Heliovaara in the first set. Eventually, though the Brit/Fin secured the break of serve to move into the lead. The second set was much the same, as Venus & Puetz once again stayed close. Glasspool & Heliovaara once again broke serve and moved into the final in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

In the final the Brit/Fin were against the fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna & Matwe Middelkoop. The first set was dominated by Glasspool & Heliovaara as the seeds struggled to stay with them. In the second set however, the seeds fought hard, and stayed with Glasspool & Heliovaara. Eventually, the Brit/Fin secured the vital break of serve and held on to claim the title 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles Round Up

Samantha Murray-Sharan with Vivian Heisen were defeated by Yana Sizikova & Anastasia Potapova in the first round in Hamburg 6-1, 6-3.

Alicia Barnett & Olivia Nicholls were defeated by Angela Kulikov & Sophie Chang in the first round in Hamburg 6-3, 0-6, 10-2.

Jonny O’Mara with Roman Jebavy were defeated by Andrea Vavassori & Lorenzo Sonego in the quarter-final in Gstaad 6-2, 6-3.

Blu Baker with Alexander Bernard were defeated by Ezekiel Clarke & Hunter Heck in the first round in Champaign, Illinois 7-6(4), 6-3.

Johannus Monday with Stefan Dostanic defeated Justin Boulais & James Kent Trotter in the final in Champaign, Illinois 7-6(4), 6-3.
