CINCINNATI, USA – Jamie Murray with Michael Venus entered the ATP 1000 event and made the final. The Brit/Kiwi dropped only one set en route to the final.

Jamie Murray & Michael Venus entered the Cincinnati main draw and were unseeded. The Brit/Kiwi drew Novak Djokovic & Nikola Cacic in the first round. The Serbians stayed close to Murray & Venus at the start of the first set, before the Brit/Kiwi broke serve and took the lead. The second set saw Murray & Venus dominate and break quickly to move into the next round 6-4, 6-2.

In the second round Murray & Venus were against the top seeds Neal Skupski & Wesley Koolhof. The Brit/Dutch pair stayed with the Brit/Kiwi and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker Murray & Venus eased through and took the lad. The second set saw the top seeds re-group and fight back. Another tiebreak followed and this time it was the top seeds that eased through to level up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak Murray & Venus dominated and moved into the next round 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 10-1.

The quarter-final saw the Brit/Kiwi against Italian Wildcard pairing of Lorenzo Sonego & Lorenzo Musetti. The Italians stayed with Murray & Venus to force a tiebreak in the first set. In the breaker the Brit/Kiwi edged through and took the lead. The second set was more of the same, as Murray & Venus were held again to a tiebreak. Once again in the breaker the Brit/Kiwi edged through to book a spot in the next round 7-6(5), 7-6(7).

In the semi-final Murray & Venus were against sixth seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin & Santiago Gonzalez. Although seeded, it was the Brit/Kiwi that got the upper hand. Breaking the serve of the seeds Murray & Venus took the first set. The second was slightly closer, but the Brit/Kiwi were able to break serve again and move into the final 6-3, 6-4.

The final saw the Brit/Kiwi pair against Argentines Maximo Gonzalez & Andres Molteni. Murray & Venus started well, breaking the Argentines and taking the lead. The second set saw Gonzalez & Molteni dominate, breaking easily to level up the match. The ensuing match tiebreak was very close. Unfortunately, the Argentines edged through to lift the title 3-6, 6-1, 11-9.

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Lloyd Glasspool with Harri Heliovaara were defeated by Andrey Rublev & Max Purcell in the first round in Cincinnati 7-6(10), 7-5.

Dan Evans with Andreas Mies were defeated by Robin Haase & Karen Khachanov in the first round in Cincinnati 6-4, 1-6, 10-7.

Joe Salisbury with Rajeev Ram were defeated by Maximo Gonzalez & Andres Molteni in the second round in Cincinnati 7-6(4), 5-7, 10-7.

Ryan Peniston & Scott Duncan were defeated by Andrew Harris & Chris Harrison in the first round in Winnipeg 6-1, 3-6, 15-13.

Billy Harris with Kelsey Stevenson were defeated by Leandro Riedi & Gabriel Diallo in the quarter-final in Winnipeg 6-2, 6-4.

Mark Whitehouse & Charles Broom were defeated by Theo Arribage & Luca Sanchez in the quarter-final in Grodzisk Mazowiecki 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Luke Johnson with Skander Mansouri were defeated by Vijay Sundar Prashanth & Anirudh Chandrasekar in the semi-final in Grodzisk Mazowiecki 7-6, 6-2.

Nicolas Philibert with Imran Sibille were defeated by Garrett Johns & Kazuma Kawachi in the first round in Monastir 6-1, 6-2.

Aryana Bartlett & Katie Dyson were defeated by Ekaterina Shalimova & Radka Zelnickova in the quarter-final in Monastir 6-2, 6-3.

Emily Webley-Smith with Sofia Shapatava were defeated by Mana Kawamura & Manon Leonard in the first round in Erwitte 6-1, 6-4.

Emilie Lindh with Clara Vlasselaer were defeated by Alina Charaeva & Lina Glushko in the quarter-final in Ourense 6-4, 7-5.

Next Week Brits play in Flushing Meadows, Winston-Salem, Augsburg, Zhuhai, Portugal, Belgium, Tunisia, Cleveland, Chicago, Czech Republic, Spain, Poland & Azerbaijan.
