Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Glasspool claims title in ATP Adelaide

  • Lloyd Glasspool & Harri Heliovaara claimed ATP 250 title
  • Brit/Fin were third seeds
  • Dropped one set en route
ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA – Lloyd Glasspool & Harri Heliovaara entered the first ATP event of the year and were the third seeds. The Brit/Fin lifted the title defeating fourth seeds in the final.

Lloyd Glasspool & Harri Heliovaara entered the first ATP event of the season and were the third seeds, as a result they received a bye in the first round. In the second round the seeds were against Lucas Miedler & Alexander Erler. The Brit/Fin secured a break of serve in the first set against the Austrians to take the lead. The second set was much closer as Miedler & Erler fought hard to force a tiebreak. In the breaker Glasspool & Heliovaara broke early to secure the lead and held on to move into the next round 6-3, 7-6(4).

In the quarter-final Glasspool & Heliovaara were against sixth seeds Robin Haase & Matwe Middelkoop. The first set saw the third seeds get the early break and took the lead. The second set saw the Dutch pair mount a fightback and stayed with the Brit/Fin. Just as it looked to be heading to a tiebreak Haase & Middelkoop broke the third seeds to level up the match. The ensuing match tiebreak saw the Brit/Fin edge the lead and moved into the semi-final 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.

The semi-final saw the Brit/Fin against Marcelo Melo & Mackenzie McDonald. In the first set the third seeds dominated and took the lead. The second set was a little bit closer as the Brazilian/American played better. However, eventually the third seeds broke serve and held on to seal the spot in the final 6-2, 6-3.

In the final Glasspool & Heliovaara were against the fourth seeds Jamie Murray & Michael Venus. The first set saw the third seeds break serve to take the lead. However, the second set was much closer as the fourth seeds fought hard. Staying with the Brit/Fin the Brit/Kiwi forced a tiebreak. In the breaker, Glasspool & Heliovaara broke early and held on to take the title 6-3, 7-6(3).

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Alicia Barnett & Olivia Nicholls were defeated by Makoto Ninomiya & Cristina Busca in the first round in Adelaide 6-1, 7-5.

Neal Skupski with Wesley Koolhof were defeated by Marcelo Melo & Mackenzie McDonald in the second round in Adelaide 6-3, 5-7, 12-10.

Joe Salisbury with Rajeev Ram were defeated by Sander Gille & Joran Vliegen in the semi-final in Pune 7-6(3), 7-6(4).

Julian Cash & Henry Patten were defeated by N Sriram Balaji & Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in the semi-final in Pune 6-4, 7-5.

Scott Duncan with Zvonmir Babic were defeated by Jonathan Eysseric & Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round in Oeiras 6-1, 6-4.

Luke Johnson with Sam Verbeek were defeated by Jonathan Eysseric & Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the semi-final in Oeiras 6-2, 6-3.

Liam Broady with Enzo Couacaud were defeated by Luke Saville & Alex Bolt in the first round in Canberra 0-0 (RET).

Heather Watson & Jodie Burrage were defeated by Michaela Bayerlova & Alana Parnaby in the first round in Canberra 2-6, 6-2, 10-6.

Ying Hou with M Rifqi Fitriadi were defeated by Mathieu Scaglia & Louis Tessa in the quarter-final in Monastir 6-1, 7-6(3).
