Tennis | Doubles Round-Up | Emily Webley-Smith claims doubles title in ITF Obidos

  • Seeded second didn’t drop a set en route
OBIDOS, PORTUGAL  – Emily Webley-Smith and Sofia Shapatava teamed up again for the doubles in the ITF event. The Brit/Georgian pair were seeded second and claimed their third doubles title together.

Emily Webley-Smith teamed up with Sofia Shapatava again in Obidos for the ITF doubles event. The Brit/Georgian were seeded second and received a bye in the first round. As a result their first on court match was in the quarter-final

In the quarter-final the Brit/Georgian pair faced Ioana Gașpar & Ekaterina Shalimova. The Romanian/Russian pairing were unable to break the serve of the seeds. Webley-Smith & Shapatava eased into the next round for the loss of only four games 6-2, 6-2.

The semi-final saw the Brit/Georgian against Anastasia Kulikova & Lucie Wargnier. The Fin/French pair could not stop the second seeds progress. Kulikova & Wargnier were no match for Webley-Smith & Shapatava, with the Brit/Georgian moving into the final 6-3, 6-1.

In the final the second seeds were against the third seeds of Martina Colmegna & María Herazo González. The Italian/Colombian pair fought well in the first set, but it was Webley-Smith & Shapatava that broke first and took the lead. The second set was dominated by the second seeds with Colmegna & Herazo González unable to get a game on the board. The second seeds lifted the trophy 6-3, 6-0.

Sarah Beth Grey & Eden Silva were defeated by Maria Ines Fonte & Francisca Jorge in the quarter-final in Obidos 0-0 RET.

Kyle Edmund & Neal Skupski were defeated by Jean-Julien Rojer & Horia Tecau in the second round in Madrid 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-5.

Jamie Murray with Bruno Soares were defeated by Wesley Koolhof & Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-final in Madrid 6-2, 7-6(4).

Joe Salisbury with Rajeev Ram were defeated by Máximo González & Horacio Zeballos in the first round in Madrid 7-5, 2-6, 11-9.

Dom Inglot with Rohan Bopanna were defeated by Guido Pella & Joao Sousa in the first round in Madrid 7-6(4), 6-3.

Jay Clarke with Gerald Melzer were defeated by Jacob Grills & Aleksandar Vukic in the first round in Shymkent 7-6(5), 6-4.

Naomi Broady & Heather Watson defeated Kristie Ahn & Alison Bai in the final in Japan 0-0 RET.

Tara Moore with Emina Bektas were defeated by Katy Dunne & Jamie Loeb in the first round in Japan 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Alexander Romay with Xavier Gabarro were defeated by Victor Ernaelsteen & Martin Van Der Meerschen in the first round in Spain 6-4, 6-4.

Luke Johnson with Felipe Meligeni Alves defeated Michiel De Krom & Francisco Dias in the final in Spain 6-3, 6-7(3), 13-11.

Emily Appleton with Ana Sofía Sánchez were defeated by Andrea Gámiz & Valeriya Strakhova in the quarter-final in Spain 6-4, 0-6, 12-10.
