Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Collins & Miyazaki claim title in ITF Nantes

NANTES, FRANCE – Ali Collins & Lily Miyazaki claimed title in the ITF event. The Brits were third seeds and took the title in straight sets.

Joe Salisbury & Rajeev Ram were fourth seeds in Paris and received a bye in the first round. In the second round the Brits were against Felix Auger-Aliassime & Sebastian Korda. The North American pair were unable to take to the court so handed the match to the seeds 0-0 (RET).

The quarter-final saw the Brit/American against Nathaniel Lammons & Jackson Withrow. The unseeded American pairing stayed toe to toe with Salisbury & Ram and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker, it was the Americans who edged through to take the lead. The second set saw more of the same and again a tiebreak followed. This time it was the Brit/American who edged through and levelled up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak and Salisbury & Ram eased through and took the win 6-7(4), 7-6(8), 10-4.

In the semi-final the Brit/American were against seventh seeds Santiago Gonzalez & Eduoard Roger-Vasselin. The Mexican/French pair broke early in the first set and took the lead. Salisbury & Ram tried to fight back in the second set, but the seventh seeds were too good and again broke serve to move into the final 6-3, 6-3.

 

Challenger & ITF Doubles

 

In Nantes Ali Collins & Lily Miyazaki entered the ITF Doubles and were the third seeds. As a result, they received a bye in the first round. The quarter-final saw the Brits against Ines Ibbou & Polina Kudermetova. The third seeds dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set was much closer as Ibbou & Kudermetova stayed with the Brits and forced a tiebreak. In the tiebreak the third seeds eased through and took the match in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(3).

The semi-final saw Collins & Miyazaki against the top seeds Alicia Barnett & Maia Lumsden. The top seeds broke early in the first set and took the lead. The second set saw the third seeds break early and level up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak Collins & Miyazaki edged through 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.

In the final, the third seeds were against the second seeds Emily Appleton & Isabelle Haverlag. The first set was very even and went to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak the Brit/Dutch pairing found the third seeds too good and Collins & Miyazaki eased through to take the lead. The second set saw the Brits dominate and lift the title in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-2.

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Jamie Murray with Michael Venus were defeated by Santiago Gonzalez & Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the second round in Paris 6-4, 6-3.

Neal Skupski with Wesley Koolhof were defeated by Santiago Gonzalez & Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the quarter-final in Paris 6-4, 6-4.

Madeline Brooks & Holly Hutchinson were defeated by Emily Appleton & Isabelle Haverlag in the semi-final in Nantes 6-4, 6-3.

Joshua Paris with Daniel Cukierman were defeated by Sander Arends & Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela in the quarter-final in Bergamo 6-7(3), 6-4, 10-5.

Henry Patten with Francisco Cabral were defeated by Evan King & Brandon Nakashima in the final in Bergamo 6-4, 7-6(1).

James Hopper with Dylan Dietrich were defeated by John-Patrick Smith & Sam Verbeek in the quarter-final in Charlottesville 7-5, 6-3.

Aidan McHugh with Tennys Sandgren were defeated by Denis Kudla & Thai-Son Kwiatkowski in the semi-final in Charlottesville 6-1, 6-4.

Jan Choinski with Denis Yevseyev were defeated by Aisam-Ul-Haq & Petros Tsitisipas in the first round in Ismaning 6-3, 7-6(3).

Luke Johnson with Skander Mansouri were defeated by Anirudh Chandrasekar & Vijay Sundar Prashanth in the quarter-final in Ismaning 6-2, 6-4.

Sarah Beth Grey & Eden Silva were defeated by Ariana Arseneault & Amy Zhu in the first round in Edmonton 7-6(3), 6-7(6), 10-3.

Ben Jones & Charles Broom were defeated by Henry Lieberman & Oren Vasser in the quarter-final in Edmonton 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.

Giles Hussey with Vasillios Caripi defeated Justin Boulais & Osgar O’Hoisin in the final in Edmonton 0-0 (RET).

Jay Clarke & Adam Jones were defeated by Petr Bar Biryukov & Illa Simakin in the quarter-final in Sharm-El-Shiekh 7-6(7), 6-4.

Mark Whitehouse with Matias Soto were defeated by Sebastian Dominko & Axel Nefve in the final in Fayetteville 6-2, 6-4.

Alexis Canter with Igor Dudun were defeated by Tomas Lanik & Samuel Puskar in the quarter-final in Al Zahra 6-1, 6-2.

Emilie Lindh Gallagher with Antonia Schmidt were defeated by Giorgia Pedone & Lisa Pigato in the semi-final in Solarino 7-5, 6-3.

Emily Webley-Smith with Sofia Shapatava were defeated by Jessie Aney & Lena Papadakis in the semi-final in Solarino 6-7(4), 7-6(1), 10-4.
