TALLINN, ESTONIA – Freya Christie & Ali Collins made the final of the W40 event. The Brits were the second seeds and were defeated by the top seeds.

Freya Christie & Ali Collins were the second seeds in Tallinn. The drew Sinja Kraus & Natalia Szabanin in the first round. The seeds broke early in the first set as the Austrian/Hungarian struggled to stay with the Brits who took the lead. The second set saw Kraus & Szabanin fight back and break the seeds to level up the match. The final match tiebreak saw Christie & Collins get ahead and move into the next round 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

In the quarter-final Christie & Collins were against Maileen Nuudi & Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove. The Estonian/Dutch pair stayed with the Brits in the first set, until, eventually the seeds secured the break of serve to move ahead. The second set saw the seeds dominate Nuudi & Pattinama Kerkhove who struggled to hold serve. The Brits moved into the semi-final in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

The semi-final saw the Brits against Slovakian pair Katarina Kuzmova & Viktoria Kuzmova. Christie & Collins dominated the first set as the Kuzmova sisters couldn’t get into the game. The second set was a little closer as the Slovaks played better, however, the seeds broke early and secured a place in the final in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

In the final Christie & Collins were against the top seeds Jessie Aney & Anna Siskova. The top seeds managed to break the Brits serve in the first set and took the lead. However, in the second set the Brits managed to force a tiebreak, which the won and levelled up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak the American/Czech edged ahead and took the title 6-4, 6-7(3), 10-7.

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Emily Webley-Smith with Sofia Shapatava were defeated by Katarina Kuzmova & Viktoria Kuzmova in the first round in Tallinn 6-1, 2-6, 10-7.

Maia Lumsden with Isabella Shinikova were defeated by Irene Burillo Escorihuela & Andrea Lazaro Garcia in the first round in Tallinn 6-2, 6-1.

Heather Watson with Danielle Collins were defeated by Marta Kostyuk & Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the first round in the Australian Open 6-4, 6-2.

Alicia Barnett & Olivia Nicholls were defeated by Marketa Vondrousova & Miriam Kolodziejova in the first round in the Australian Open 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Julian Cash & Henry Patten were defeated by Matwe Middelkoop & Robin Hasse in the second round in the Australian Open 6-4, 7-6(8).

Jamie Murray with Michael Venus were defeated by Gonzalo Escobar & Tomislav Brkic in the second round in the Australian Open 7-6(5), 6-4.

Lloyd Glasspool with Harri Heliovaara were defeated by Jason Kubler & Rinky Hijikata in the second round in the Australian Open 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Jan Choinski & Stuart Parker were defeated by Nam Ji-Sung & Song Min-Kyu in the final in Nonthaburi 6-4, 6-4.

Jonny O’Mara with Szymon Walkow were defeated by Vlad Victor Cornea & Sergio Martos Gornes in the quarter-final in Tenerife 7-6, 1-6, 10-7,

Felix Gill with Eliakim Coulibaly were defeated by Sebastian Fanselow & Christian Sigsgaard in the semi-final in Manacor 6-1, 6-4.

Next Week Brits play in Australian Open, Ottignes, Sunderland, Germany, Spain, Turkey, France & Tunisia.
