Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Anna Popescu claims title in ITF Heraklion

  • Fourth seeds didn’t drop a set all event
HERAKLION, GREECE – Anna Popescu and Julia Kimmelmann teamed up for the ITF event. The Brit/German were fourth seeds and lifted the trophy.

Anna Popescu teamed up with Julia Kimmelmann for the ITF event in Greece. The Brit/German were fourth seeds. In the first round Popescu & Kimmelmann were against Greeks Chara Meidani & Kyriaki Mitsou. The seeds dominated the match, Popescu & Kimmelmann broke easily in the first set to take the lead. In the second seed the fourth seeds out played Meidani & Mitsou, breaking at will. The Brit/German moved into the next round 6-2, 6-0.

The quarter-final pitched Popescu & Kimmelmann against the all British pairing of Danielle Daly & Annali Olivelle. The first set saw the seeds break Daly & Olivelle early and hold on to the lead, taking the set. In the second set, the seeds dominated the Brits and moved into the semi-final 6-3, 6-2.

In the semi-final the Brit/German were against the top seeds Anastasia Detiuc & Lexie Stevens. The Czech/Dutch pair found the fourth seeds too strong in the first set. Popescu & Kimmelmann broke Detiuc & Stevens to take the lead. The second set was much closer as the top seeds mounted a fightback. However, the Brit/German stayed toe to toe and a tiebreak ensued. In the tiebreak Popescu & Kimmelmann upped their game and managed to get the mini break. The Brit/German moved into the final 6-3, 7-6(3).

The final saw the fourth seeds against the second seeds Weronika Falkowska & Ioana GaΘ™par. In the first set the Brit/German once again dominated, breaking more or less at will and took the lead. In the second set Popescu & Kimmelmann were pushed harder by the Polish/Romanian, however, the Brit/German managed to get the break required and took the title 6-2, 6-4.

Tanysha Dissanayke & Eliz Maloney were defeated by Danielle Daly & Annali Olivelle in the first round in Heraklion 4-6. 6-1, 10-4.

Daniel Little with Petr Hajek were defeated by Ben Patael & Sahar Simon in the first round in Heraklion 6-4, 6-3.

Patrick Foley with Rishab Agarwal were defeated by Aristotelis Thanos & Petros Tsitipas in the first round in Heraklion 6-7(5), 6-2, 10-5.

Ben Jones & Joshua Paris were defeated by Federico Arnaboldi & Gianmarco Ferrari in the quarter-final in Heraklion 7-6(6), 3-6, 10-8.

Julian Cash with Reese Stadler were defeated by Yuki Mochizuki & Takuto Niki in the quarter-final in Heraklion 4-6, 7-5, 10-4.

Aidan McHugh with Yshai Oliel were defeated by Shintaro Imai & Evan Zhu in the quarter-final in Santo Domingo 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Giacomo Revelli with Mauro De Malo were defeated by Yanki Erel & Park Ui-Sung in the first round in Monastir 6-2, 7-6(4).

Felix Gill with Benjamin Dhoe were defeated by Olexiy Kolisnyk & Oleg Prihodko in the first round in Novomoskovsk 7-6(7), 6-4.

Stuart Parker with Bart Stevens were defeated by Sandro Ehat & Jakub Paul in the first round in Antalya 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-5.

Charles Dossetter with Elijah Poritzky were defeated by Toby Kodat & Timo Stodder in the first round in Antalya 6-2, 6-1.

Toby Martin with Yann Wojcik were defeated by Gergely Madarasz & Zsombor Velcz in the quarter-final in Sarajevo 6-0, 6-4.

Graziella Barrett with Ivania Martinich were defeated by Tereza Mihalikova & Chantel Skamlova in the first round in Banja Luka 6-0, 6-0.

Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski were defeated by Juan SebastiΓ‘n Cabal & Robert Farah in the first round in the French Open 6-4, 6-4.

Luke Bambridge & Dom Inglot were defeated by Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares in the first round in the French Open 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 6-3.

Cameron Norrie & Jonny O’Mara were defeated by Pierre-Hugues Herbert & Nicolas Mahut in the first round in the French Open 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Joe Salisbury with Rajeev Ram were defeated by Hugo Nys & Tim Putz in the second round in the French Open 6-4, 6-4.

Heather Watson with Anna Blinkova were defeated by Sharon Fichman & Giuliana Olmos in the first round in the French Open 6-3, 6-2.

Jamie Murray with Bethanie Mattek-Sands were defeated by Juan SebastiΓ‘n Cabal & Giuliana Olmos in the first round in the French Open 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 10-6.

Neal Skupski with Alexa Guarachi were defeated by Wesley Koolhof & Demi Schuurs in the quarter-final in the French Open 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
