Tennis | Doubles | Jonathan Binding claims doubles title in Kuwait

  • Jonathan Binding & Roy De Valk lifted the doubles trophy in Kuwait
  • Fourth seeds only dropped
MESHREF, KUWAIT – Jonathan Binding & Roy De Valk teamed up in Kuwait and took the title only dropping a set. The Brit/Dutch pair defeated the second seeds en route to the trophy.

Jonathan Binding teamed up with Roy De Valk and were seeded fourth. The Brit/Dutch team drew Ali Alshati & Essa Qabazard. The Kuwaiti pair were no match for the fourth seeds who lost only one game as they dominated the the match and moved easily into the quarter-final 6-1, 6-0.

In the quarter-final the fourth seeds faced Obrad Markovski & Stefan Micov. The Macedonians were tougher opponents with Binding & De Valk having to work hard to break serve. Once the fourth seeds broke serve in each set, there was no going back. The Brit/Dutchman moved into the semi-final in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

The semi-final saw Binding & De Valk faced Giovani Samaha & Vadym Ursu. The Lebanese/Ukrainian pairing were the trickiest opponents so far. The fourth seeds broke at the end of the first set and avoided the tiebreak. Samaha & Ursu forced a tiebreak in the second set which the Lebanese/Ukrainian edged to level up. The ensuing match tiebreak proved close, but it was the Brit/Dutchman that moved into the final 7-5, 6-7(6), 10-7.

In the final the fourth seeds faced the second seeds Alec Adamson & Miles Seemann. The Americans put up a fight but were not able to break Binding & De Valk. The Brit/Dutchman broke in each set to claim the title in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Naomi Broady with Sabrina Santamaria were defeated by Quinn Gleason & Luisa Stefani in the first round in Houston 7-5, 6-2.

Luke Bambridge with Tennys Sandgren were defeated by Leander PaesMiguel Ángel Reyes-Varela in the quarter-final in Houston 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.

Ryan Peniston & Andrew Watson were defeated by Gijs BrouwerJustin Butsch in the quarter-final in USA 7-6(8), 4-6, 10-7.

David Fox & Mark Whitehouse were defeated by Dominik KellovskyMatej Vocel in the semi-final in USA 6-3, 6-3.

Aleksandra Pitak & Katarzyna Pitak were defeated by Susan BandecchiSandra Samir in the quarter-final in Sharm El Sheikh 6-1, 6-0.

Matthew Hingley & Joshua Rose were defeated by Finn Bass & Jordan Hasson in the first round in Greece 6-2, 6-1.

Finn Bass with Jordan Hasson were defeated by Markos KalovelonisPetros Tsitsipas in the quarter-final in Greece 7-6(2), 4-6, 10-6.

Jake Hersey with Pedro Vives Marcos were defeated by Vit Kopriva & David Pilcher in the semi-final in Greece 3-6, 6-1, 10-4.

Joe Cooper with Matt Seeberger were defeated by Skyler Butts & Joseph Van Meter in the first round in Mozambique 6-2, 7-6(0).

Lamar Bartley & Isaac Stoute were defeated by Benjamin Lock & Courtney Lock in the quarter-final in Mozambique 6-2, 6-3.

Patrick Foley with Sheil Kotecha were defeated by Luke Gamble & Tyler Lu in the quarter-final in Mozambique 6-2, 6-2.

Luke Johnson with Christoph Negritu were defeated by Jiří Jeníček & Vojtech Vlkovsky in the first round in the Czech Republic 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.
