Brit of the Week
Mingge Xu entered the ITF and was unseeded. In the first round the Brit was against Emmanuelle Girard. The French women struggled during the game as the young Brit dominated. Xu broke early in the first set and was soon ahead. The second set was more of the same as Girard just could not do anything with the game of the British Junior. Xu eased through in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
The second round saw the young Brit against qualifier Alessia Popescu. The Romanian found Xu too good, as the Brit dominated the first set. Xu dropped only one game in the first set to take the lead. The second set was more of the same as the junior dominated Popescu. The young Brit eased through in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
In the quarter-final Xu was against Italian Lara Pfeifer. The first set saw the young Brit continue her dominance, as Pfeifer struggled to stay with Xu who took the lead. The second set proved a little closer. Pfeifer found her game, but eventually the young Brit broke serve and moved into the next round 6-2, 6-4.
The semi-final saw the young Brit against eighth seed Evialina Laskevich. The seed dominated Xu in the first set, as the Brit struggled to find her range. The second set was closer though, as Xu managed to stay with Laskevich at the start. Eventually, the seed broke serve and took the match 6-2, 6-4.
