MADRID, SPAIN – Mark Whitehouse entered the ITF event and was the fourth seed. The Brit made the final before being defeated by the fifth seed.
Brit of the Week
Mark Whitehouse entered the ITF event in Spain and was the fourth seed. In the first round the Brit drew Miguel Avendano Cadena. The Spanish wildcard stayed close to Whitehouse in the first set, however, the Brit managed to break serve and take the lead. The second set saw the wildcard re-group and dominate the Brit to level up the match. In the final set, it was the Brit who managed to break early and take the match 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
In the second round the Brit was against qualifier Luca Wiedenmann. The German found the seed too good as Whitehouse broke in the first set to take the lead. The second set saw the fourth seed dominate Widenmann who was unable to stay with the Brit. Whitehouse progressed into the next round 6-3, 6-2.
The quarter-final saw Whitehouse against sixth seed Tim Handel. The Brit and German battled hard in the first set, before Whitehouse secured the break of serve and took the lead. The second set was closer, as once again Handel stayed with the Brit. Eventually, Whitehouse secured the vital break of serve and moved into the next round 6-3, 6-4.
In the semi-final Whitehouse was against John Echeverria. The Brit started well and broke the Spaniard to take the lead. Echeverria re-grouped in the second set and broke the Brit to level up the match. The final set saw Whitehouse totally dominate the Spaniard to book a spot in the final 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
The final saw the Brit against fifth seed Kalin Ivanovski. Whitehouse and the Macedonian fought hard in the first set, and it took Ivanovski a while before securing the break of serve and took the lead. The second set saw the fifth seed dominate the Brit to lift the title 6-4, 6-2.
Challenger & ITF Round Up
Jan Choinski was defeated by Maximilian Neuchrist in the quarter-final in Maia 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Emilie Lindh was defeated by Maja Radenkovic in the first round in Monastir W15 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Nicolas Philibert was defeated by Jarno Jans in the first round in Monastir M25 6-1, 6-1.
Alexis Canter was defeated by Nicolas Tepmahc in the second round in Monastir M15 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.
Stuart Parker was defeated by Tibo Colson in the first round in Trvana 6-3, 7-6.
Georgina Hays was defeated by Oceane Babel in the first round in Lousada 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
