Brit of the Week

Harry Wendelken entered the ITF event and was the sixth seed. In the first round the Brit was against Jake Van Emburgh. The American struggled in the first set and saw the Wendelken break serve to take the lead. The second set was closer as Emburgh stayed with the seed. Eventually, though, the Brit broke serve and took the match 6-3, 6-4.

The second round saw Wendelken against Chilean Diego Fernandez Flores. The Brit was set and ready to hit the court. Unfortunately, Fernandez Flores was unable to do so, and therefore handed the match to the seed with a walkover. Wendelken moved into the next round 0-0 (RT).

In the quarter-final the Brit was against Rodrigo Fernandes. The wildcard from Portugal stayed with Wendelken at the start of the first set, before the seed managed to break serve and take the lead. The second set saw the Portuguese re-group and break the Brit serve to level the match. The final set saw Wendelken dominate and move into the next round 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

The semi-final saw Wendelken against second seed Henrique Rocha. The Brit dominated the Portuguese in the first set and took the lead. The second set saw Rocha re-group and break the Brit serve to level up the match. The final set was very close and looked to be heading to a tiebreak, however, Wendelken broke right at the end of the set to take the win and move into the final 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.

In the final, the Brit was against fifth seed Jaime Faria. The Portuguese got off to the better start and broke serve to take the lead. However, Wendelken re-grouped and dominated the second set to level up the match. In the final set both players went toe to toe and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker the Brit eased through and took the title 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(4).
