Brit of the Week

Toby Samuel entered the ITF event and was the sixth seed. The Brit drew American wildcard Kyle Kang in the first round. Samuel was too strong for Kang and dominated the match from start to finish. The Brit bearly put a foot wrong as Kang struggled to hold serve. The Brit moved into the next round 6-2, 6-2.

In the second round the Brit was against Alex Martinez. The Spaniard was unable to stay with Samuel in the first set, as the Brit dominated to take the lead. The second set was more of the same as Martinez was broken easily, the Brit moved into the quarter-final in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

The quarter-final saw the Brit against the second seed Johannas Ingildsen. The Dane was more of a match up in the first set, as the pair stayed close. Eventually, though, Samuel made the breakthrough and took the lead. The second set saw the Brit break early and the seed was unable to get back into the match. Samuel moved into the semi-final 6-4, 6-3.

In the semi-final Samuel was against the fifth seed Olle Wallin. The Swede proved to be the toughest opponent at the start, as both fought hard to break. Eventually, it was the Brit that secured the break of serve right at the end of the set to take the lead. The second set saw Samuel dominate again and move into the final in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.

The final saw the Brit against American Learner Tien. The 16 year old tried to stay with Samuel in the match, however the Brit secured a break of serve early in both sets. Tien tried to get the break back, but was unable to and the Brit lifted the title in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
