Brit of the Week
Kristina Paskauskas entered the W15 ITF event in Monastir and was unseeded. The Brit drew unseeded Italian Federica Prati. Paskauskas dominated the first set, with Prati unable to hold serve. The Brit eased through to take the lead. The second set saw the Italian play better and stay with the Brit at the start. However, Paskauskas eventually secured the break of serve and moved into the next round 6-0, 6-3.
The second round saw the Brit against the eighth seed Lara Pfeifer. Paskauskas dominated the first set and took the lead. The Italian fought back in the second set, staying with Paskauskas in the early stages. Eventually the seed broke serve and levelled up the match. The final set saw the Brit break early and Pfeifer was unable to break back. Paskauskas moved into the next round 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against the fourth seed Stephanie Judith Visscher. Just like in the previous round it was Paskauskas who got the early break a better start. Visscher was unable to break back and the Brit had the first set in the bag. The second set saw the Dutch women fight back. Staying close to the Brit Visscher was eventually able to break and level up the match. The final set was very close. Neither player wanted to give an inch, and inevitably the set went to a tiebreak. The breaker itself was very tight, the Brit edged through and into the semi-final 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(8).
The semi-final saw Paskauskas against Joanna Zawadzka. The Brit dominated the first set as the Pole struggled to hold serve. The second set was a little closer as Zawadzka managed to get a few more games on the board. However, the Brit was not to be denied and moved into the final in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
In the final Paskauskas was against Chia Yi Tsao. The Chinese Taipei player found the Brit too strong in the first set, as Paskauskas dominated and took the lead. The second set saw Tsao fight back and break the Brit to level up the match. The final set was to and fro and neither player able to establish a lead. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued which the Brit edged through and took her first ITF level singles title 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(8).
