- Brit was the fourth seed
LAVAL, QUEBEC, CANADA – Aidan McHugh entered the ITF event and was the fourth seed. The Brit made the semi-final before being defeated.
Brit of the Week
Aidan McHugh was the fourth seed at the event in Canada. In the first round the Brit drew American junior Adhithya Ganesan. The seed started well and looked to break early in the first set. McHugh managed to secure the break needed as Ganesan couldn’t hold on. The second set was more of the same. McHugh again took the vital break of serve and moved into the next round 6-3, 6-3.
The second round saw the Brit against another American, this time Alexander Bernard. McHugh dominated from the start. Bernard struggled to hold serve, as the seed broke at will. McHugh wasted no time in clinching the first set, dropping only one game. The second set saw McHugh continue the dominance, again breaking freely. The Brit moved into the next round 6-1, 6-1.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against fifth seed Kiranpal Pannu. The Kiwi found McHugh too good in the first set, as the Brit dominated and took the lead. The second set, though, was much closer. Pannu started to find range, and stayed close to McHugh. Eventually, though, the fourth seed broke serve and moved into the next round 6-1, 6-4.
The semi-final saw the seed against qualifier Karl Poling. The American had defeated the top seed in the previous round, so was looking dangerous. McHugh stayed with Poling at the start of the first set. Going toe to toe with the qualifier. Eventually, Poling managed to break serve and take the lead. The second set was more of the same. The Brit stayed close, but eventually, Poling broke serve to take the win 6-4, 6-4.
