Brit of the Week

Ella McDonald was the second seed in Bissy-Chambery. In the first round the Brit drew qualifier Severine Deppner. The second seed dominated the qualifier in the first set, losing only one game to take the lead. The second set was a little closer as Deppner tried to fight hard. Eventually, the Brit broke serve and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

The second round saw the Brit against Jacqueline Nylander Altelius. The Swede found McDonald too strong as the Brit dominated from the outset. McDonald eased through both sets, barely putting a foot wrong. The seed soon moved through to the next round in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

In the quarter-final McDonald was against eighth seed Viola Turini. The Italian was no match for the Brit who dominated the match. McDonald eased through the first set as Turini struggled to keep pace with the second seed. The Brit soon took the lead. The second set was even quicker for McDonald as the Italian could do nothing about the game of the second seed. McDonald moved into the next round 6-2, 6-1.

The semi-final saw the Brit against fourth seed Marine Szostak. The French player stayed toe to toe with the Brit at first. Eventually, McDonald broke serve and moved into the lead. The second set was a little easier for the Brit, as McDonald broke serve early and took the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

In the final the Brit was against third seed Ekaterina Ovcharenko. McDonald dominated from the off. The Brit didn’t put a foot wrong and took the first set without dropping a game. The second set, saw Ovcharenko get on the board. However, McDonald broke at will and lifted the title 6-0, 6-1.

The Dutch player got the jump on Crawford and dominated the first set to take the lead. The second set saw the Brit re-group. Crawford managed to break serve and level up the match. The final set saw the top seed dominate and move into the next round 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The second round saw the Brit against qualifier Erik Grevelius. The Swede stayed close to Crawford at the start, before the top seed broke serve to take the lead. The second set saw Crawford dominate and ease through into the next round in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

In the quarter-final Crawford was against Niels Visker. The Dutchman dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set saw the top seed re-group. Crawford and Visker went toe to toe, eventually, the top seed broke serve and levelled up the match. The final set saw the Brit & Dutchman stay close. Crawford made the breakthrough and broke serve to take the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The semi-final had the top seed against fifth seed Max Houkes. The Dutchman managed to stay close to Crawford in the first set. Eventually, the break of serve came for the top seed and Crawford moved into the lead. The second set was more of the same. Crawford broke through and took the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

In the final the Brit was against Spaniard Alex Marti Pujolras. The Brit dominated the final from the outset. Pujolras was unable to stay with Crawford. The top seed was in such form that nothing the Spaniard tried worked. The Brit lifted the title dropping only 1 game in the final 6-0, 6-1.
