Brit of the Week

Emilie Lindh entered the ITF event in Sharm El Sheik and was the fifth seed. In the first round the Brit drew American Anna Ulyashchenko. Lindh dominated the first set as the American struggled to get into the match. The fifth seed was soon on top and in the lead. The second set was a little closer as Ulyashchenko tried to fight back, however, Lindh broke serve and took the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

In the second round the Brit was against Aleksandra Pospelova. In a close first set the Brit secured the vital break of serve against Pospelova and took the lead. The second set, though, was much closer. Pospelova forced a tiebreak which itself was very close. Eventually, Pospelova secured the minibreak and levelled up the match. Lindh re-grouped in the final set, and dominated from the start. The Brit secured the win and moved into the next round 6-4, 6-7(10), 6-2.

The quarter-final pitched Lindh against the top seed Karola Patricia Bejenaru. The Romanian got off to the better start and broke the Brit to take the lead. However, the fifth seed re-grouped and stayed with Bejenaru to force a tiebreak in the second set. Lindh dominated the breaker as Bejenaru was unable to stay with the pace. The final set was more of the same, Lindh forcing a tiebreak and then dominating to move into the next round 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(2).

In the semi-final the Brit was against fourth seed Polina Iatcenko. The fourth seed got off to a better start and broke the serve of Lindh to take the lead. However, in the second set the fifth seed dominated Iatcenko and levelled up the match. The final set was fairly close, but eventually, Lindh secured the break of serve and moved into the final 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The final saw the Brit against second seed Katarina Kuzmova. The Slovakian secured the early break in the first set and took the lead. The second was much closer as Lindh stayed with Kuzmova. Ultimately, the Slovakian secured the vital break of serve to lift the trophy in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
