Tennis | Challenger & ITF Round Up | Katy Dunne made quarter-final in ITF Porto

PORTO, PORTUGAL – Katy Dunne progressed the quarter-final of the ITF event before being defeated. The Brit is on the come back from injury and this tournament was a good starting point.

Brit of the Week

Katy Dunne entered the ITF event in Portugal, starting her comeback trail from injury. The Brit was unseeded and made the main draw having come through qualifying. In the first round the Brit was against Ingrid Gamarra Martins. The Brazilian was out played by Dunne in the first set, with the Brit dominating to take the lead. In the second set Dunne had won the first two games when the Brazilian retired from the match, handing the Brit the spot in the next round 6-2, 2-0.

The second round saw the Brit up against the top seed Leonie Kung. The Swiss was no match for Dunne who again dominated the first set to take the lead. In the second set Kung tried to fight back, but the Brit continued the fine form from the first match and broke the Swiss to take the match 6-2, 6-3.

In the quarter-final the Brit was against Georgina Garcia-Perez. The Spaniard dominated the first set, and Dunne was only able to get one game on the board. In the second set, Dunne upped her level, trying to fight back. Unfortunately Garcia-Perez managed to break serve and took the match 6-1, 6-3.

 

Honourable Mention

Stuart Parker entered the ITF event in Monastir, Tunisia and in the first round the Brit was against Yaraslav Shyla. The Belarusian stayed toe to toe with Parker forcing a tiebreak. The Brit edged the tiebreak to take the lead. In the second set Parker secured the break of serve to move into the second round 7-6(5), 6-3.

The second round saw Parker face the top seed Aziz Dougaz. The Tunisian may have been on home soil, but the Brit had his eye in. Parker secured the break of serve in both sets and Dougaz was not able to break back. It was the Brit that moved into the quarter-final in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

In the quarter-final Parker was against Slovenian Tom Kocevar-Desman. The Brit was outplayed by the Slovenian who totally dominated the match. No matter what Parker tried he could not get back on terms and Kocevar-Desman won the match 6-2, 6-2.

Challenger & ITF Round Up

Ryan Peniston was defeated by Patrik Niklas-Salminen in the first round in Porto 6-4, 6-2.

Jodie Burrage was defeated by Jule Niemeir in the first round in Porto 6-2, 6-1.

Samantha Murray-Sharan was defeated by Susan Bandecchi in the second round in Porto 5-2 RET.
