Brit of the Week
Paul Jubb entered the ITF event and was the top seed. In the first round Jubb was against Giovanni Oradini. The Italian got off to the better start and broke the Brits serve to take the lead. The second set saw Jubb re-group and fight hard. The top seed forced a tiebreak which he edged through to level up the match. The final set saw the Brit break the serve of the Italian and move into the next round 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4.
The second round saw the Brit against another Italian Federico Iannaccone. Jubb managed to break the Italian serve in the first set and took the lead. The second set was easier for the top seed who eased through after breaking early. Jubb moved to the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
In the quarter-final the top seed was against fifth seed Justin Engel. The German stayed close to the Brit in the first set, and looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, right at the end of the set Jubb secured the break of serve to take the lead. The second set saw Jubb break early and ease through into the next round in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
The semi-final saw Jubb against Italian wildcard Lorenzo Carboni. The unseeded player dominated the first set, as Jubb struggled to work out Carboni. However, in the second set Jubb re-grouped and secured a vital break of serve to level up the match. The Brit then broke early in the final set and moved into the next round 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In the final Jubb was against unseeded Italian Andrea Guerrieri. Both players fought hard in the first set and it looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, the Italian broke right at the end of the set to take the lead. The second set was very close, with neither player getting the vital break of serve. In the tiebreak, Jubb dominated and levelled up the match. The final set was another close affair and yet again went to a tiebreak. This one was slightly closer, however the top seed edged through and took the title 5-7, 7-6(2), 7-6(4).
