FRANKFURT AM MAIN, GERMANY – Jan Choinski entered the ITF event and was the sixth seed. The Brit lifted the title without dropping a set.

Jan Choinski entered the ITF event in Germany and was the sixth seed. In the first round the Brit was drawn against qualifier Adam Belcha. The Czech player stayed toe to toe with the seed until later in the set, when Choinski managed to break serve and take the lead. The second set saw Choinski dominate and take the match to ease into the second round 6-4, 6-2.

The second round saw Choinski pitched against German Niklas Schell. The Brit and the German were due to play, however Schell withdrew before a ball was struck in anger. Handing a walkover to the seed who moved into the next round 0-0 (RET).

In the quarter-final the Brit was against Czech Daniel Paty. The seed dominated the first set, breaking almost at will. Choinski was soon a set up. The second set saw Paty play better, and stay with the Brit at the start. However, Choinski broke to take the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

The semi-final saw the Brit against seventh seed Kai Wehnelt. The German was the toughest match to date for Choinski. The first set saw the Brit break the German to take the lead. The second set was much closer, as neither player would give an inch. In the breaker, Choinski eased into the lead and booked a spot in the final 6-4, 7-6(3).

In the final Choinski was against fourth seed Imanol Lopez Morillo. The Brit managed to break the serve of the fourth seed and took the lead. The second set was very close, and went to a tiebreak. In the breaker it was the Brit who eased through to take the title in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4).

 

Honourable Mention 1

Felix Gill entered the ITF event in Eupen, Belgium and was the top seed. The Brit was against Belgian Romain Faucon. The first set saw the Brit break early and take the lead. Faucon tried to fight back in the second, however Gill managed to secure the vital break of serve to move into the next round 6-3, 6-4.

In the second round Gill was against Elgin Khoeblal. The Dutch player was dominated by the top seed in the first set, the Brit only lost one game all set. In the second set Khoeblal re-grouped and managed to break serve of the top seed to level up the match. The final set was once again dominated by the Brit and Gill moved into the next round 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

The quarter-final saw the Brit against Philip Florig. The Brit dominated the first set, as the German struggled to hold serve. In the second set Florig fought back, and forced a tiebreak. In the tiebreak the German managed to get ahead and levelled up the match. The final set, once again was dominated by Gill who moved into the semi-final 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-1.

In the semi-final Gill was against third seed Antoine Hoang. The Frenchman stayed toe to toe with the Brit in the first set, before the top seed managed to get the break and move ahead. The second set was more or less a repeat of the first. Gill managed to break the Frenchman and move into the final 6-3, 6-4.

The final saw Gill against Buvaysar Gadamuri. The unseeded Belgian had the crowd behind him, but this didn’t stop the Brit from breaking early in the first set to take the lead. The second set saw the Belgian stay with the seed until eventually, Gill broke to take the match and the title 6-3, 6-4.

 

Honourable Mention 2

Charles Broom was the second seed in Helsinki. In the first round the Brit was against Nicholas Jovanovski. The Australian stayed toe to toe with the Brit in the first set. However, eventually Broom was able to break serve and take the set. The second set was dominated by the seed, as Jovanovski struggled to get anything on the game of Broom. The Brit moved into the second round 6-4, 6-1.

The second round saw the Brit against German Benedikt Henning. Broom dominated the match from start to finish. The first set saw Henning hold serve a couple of times, before Broom secured the set. The second set, however, saw the seed win every game of the set and move into the next round 6-2, 6-0.

In the quarter-final the Brit was against Roni Mikael Hietaranta. The second seed dominated the first set, swiftly taking the lead. The second set was a little closer as the Fin tried to fight back. However, Brom broke serve and moved into the next round 6-2, 6-3.

The semi-final saw the second seed against fifth seed Mathieu Scaglia. The Brit dominated the first set as the Frenchman struggled to hold serve. The second set was much closer as Scaglia found his range. The fifth seed forced a tiebreak, however the Brit managed to ease through into the final 6-1, 7-6(3).

In the final Broom was against third seed Filip Peliwo. The Pole got off to the better start, and broke the serve of the Brit to take the lead. The second set saw Broom re-group and secure the break of serve to level up the match. In the final set, Broom dominated to lift the title 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Matilda Mutavdzic was defeated by Lara Salden in the second round in Koksijde 7-5, 6-2.
