FORLI, ITALY – Jack Draper entered the ATP Challenger and was the eighth seed. The Brit only dropped one set en route to the trophy.
Brit of the Week
Jack Draper entered the ATP Challenger event in Forli, Italy instead of heading to Australia for the qualifying event for the Australian Open. The Brit was the eighth seed. In the first round the Brit was against Roberto Quiroz. The Ecuadorian was no match for Draper in the first set. The Brit dominated to take the lead. The second set saw Quiroz try to fight back. Staying toe to toe with the Brit. Eventually Draper was able to break serve and take the win 6-1, 6-4.
The second round saw the Brit against Luca Nardi. The Italian struggeled aginst the Brit. Draper dominated the match from start to finish. The eighth seed was unstoppable and broke at will. The Brit moved into the quarter-final in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
In the quarter-final Draper was aainst Alexander Ritschard. The American got off to the better start and managed to break the Brit serve. Ritschard held on and took the lead. The second set saw Draper and Ritschard go toe to toe. Finally, the Brit managed to break and level up the match. In the final set the eighth seed secured the break of serve needed to take the win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
The semi-final saw the Brit against Zsomber Piros. The Hungarian stayed with the eighth seed until Draper managed to secure the break of serve and move into the lead. The second set saw the Brit break serve and move into the lead. Unfortunately Piros had to retire from the match. Draper moved into the final 6-4, 3-1 (RET).
In the final Draper was against third seed Jay Clarke. Draper managed to secure a break of serve in the first set to take the lead. No matter what Clarke tried, Draper was equal to it. In the second set the eighth seed dominated the third seed to take the title 6-3, 6-0.
