VEIGY-FONCENEX, FRANCE – Giles Hussey entered the ITF event and was the sixth seed. The Brit made the semi-final before being defeated.
Brit of the Week
Giles Hussey entered the ITF event in France and was the sixth seed. In the first round the Brit drew Adan Freire Da Silva. The French Qualifier stayed with Hussey in the first set, going toe to toe with the seed. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued. Hussey dominated the breaker and took the lead. The second set was a little easier for the Brit as he broke the serve of the Frenchman and moved into the next round 7-6(2), 6-3.
The second round saw the Brit against Vlad Andrei Dancu. Hussey dominated the first set as the Romanian struggled to stay with him. The seed soon had the lead and the Romanian would need to re-group. The second set saw the seed break serve again and take the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
In the quarter-final Hussey was against the third seed Robert Strombachs. The German stayed with the Brit in the first set. Neither player gave an inch and a tiebreak ensued. Hussey edged the breaker and took the lead. The second set was more of the same, with neither wanting to lose. It looked like another tiebreak was on the cards, however, the Brit managed to secure the break of serve and move into the next round 7-6(6), 7-5.
The semi-final saw the seed against unseeded German Matthias Bachinger. The German got off to the better start and broke Hussey for the lead. The second set saw Bachinger dominate the seed and try as he might, the Brit was not able to get back into the match. Bachinger took the match 6-3, 6-2.
