Brit of the Week

Giles Hussey was the second seed at the ITF event in Spain. In the first round the Brit drew Bulgarian Iliyan Radulov. Hussey dominated the first set as the Bulgarian struggled to keep pace with the seed. The second set was a little closer, however, the seed secured the vital break of serve and took the win in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

The second round saw the Brit against another Bulgarian, this time Nikolay Nedelchev. The first set was fairly close, as both stayed toe to toe. Eventually, though, Hussey got the vital break of serve and took the lead. The second set saw the seed dominate, as Nedelchev was unable to keep pace. The seed moved into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

In the quarter-final Hussey was against qualifier Kuzey Cekirge. The Turk did well, staying with the Brit at the start of the set. However, the seed showed his experience, breaking to move ahead. The second set was more of the same. The Brit once again broke serve to move into the next round in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

The semi-final saw the Brit against wildcard Nikoloz Basilashvilli. The former top 20 player stayed close to Hussey in the first set. Eventually, the second seed broke serve to take the lead. The second set saw Hussey step things up and dominate to book a spot in the final 6-4, 6-1.

In the final Hussey was against sixth seed Adria Soriano Barrera. The Columbian got the better start and broke the Brit serve in the first set to take the lead.
