Brit of the Week
Giles Hussey entered the ITF event and was the second seed. The Brit drew qualifier and fellow Brit Louis Allen in the first round. The first set saw the qualifier stay with Hussey at first. However, the seed managed to secure the break of serve and take the lead. The second set was also very close. Allen looked to force a tiebreak, but Hussey managed to break serve right at the end to move into the next round 6-4, 7-5.
The second round saw Hussey against German qualifier Filip Krolo. The seed dominated the first set as the German could not stay with the pace and the Brit took the lead. The second set was more of the same. Krolo could not make any in roads into Hussey game and the Brit moved into the next round 6-2, 6-2.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against fifth seed Arthur Reymond. The Frenchman stayed close to Hussey in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker the second seed dominated and moved into the lead. The second set was a stroll in the park for Hussey, who hardly put a foot wrong as he moved into the next round 7-6(2), 6-0.
The semi-final saw the seed against un seeded Brit James Story. Hussey dominated from the start. The first set saw Story struggling and unable to keep up with the pace of the seed. The second set was more of the same. Hussey played well and Story just could not get into the match. The seed moved on in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
In the final Hussey was against top seed Robert Strombachs. The German made the better start and broke the serve of the Brit to take the lead. The second set saw a fightback by Hussey who forced a tiebreak. The breaker saw the second seed dominate and level up the match. The final set saw both players fight hard, but it was the Brit who secured the break of serve and lifted the title 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.
