Brit of the Week

Billy Harris entered the ATP Challenger event in Chennai and was the top seed. The Brit drew qualifier Eric Vanshelboim in the first round. The Ukrainian stayed close to the Brit in the first set and looked to force a tiebreak. However, Harris secured the vital break of serve at the end of the set to take the lead. The second set was much easier for the top seed, who dominated and took the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.

The second round saw Harris against Ergi Kirkin. The Turk managed to stay with the top seed at the start of the first set. Eventually, though, the Brit broke serve and took the lead. The second set followed the same pattern. The top seed broke serve and held on to take the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

In the quarter-final Harris was against the seventh seed Timofey Skatov. The Brit broke early in the first set to take the lead. The second was much closer as Skatov managed to stay with the top seed. Harris and the seventh seed needed a tiebreak to decide the winner. The breaker was also close. However, Harris managed to edge ahead and hold on to take the match in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(6).

The semi-final saw Harris against Elias Ymer. The Swede kept pace with the top seed and forced a tiebreak in the first set. Ymer managed to edge the tiebreak and take the lead. The second set was more of the same, with again a tiebreak needed to settle it. This time the Swede dominated the breaker and took the match 7-6(5), 7-6(2).
