Brit of the Week
Francesca Jones entered the ITF event in Italy and was unseeded. In the first round the Brit was against fifth seed Katharina Gerlach. The German really struggled in the first set as Jones totally dominated. The Brit broke at will and took the set easily, without losing a game. The second set was closer with Gerlach finding form, however it was Jones that managed to break serve and take the match 6-0, 7-5.
The second round saw Jones against Nicole Fosse Huergo. The Italian had no chance against the Brit, who completed dominated. The first set saw Huergo only get one game on the board as Jones took the lead. In the second set the Italian managed to get more games on the board, but the Brit still took the match in straight sets to move into the next round 6-1, 6-2.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against Lea Bošković. The Croat stayed toe to toe with Jones in the first set, however the Brit secured the vital break and took the lead. This seemed to break the will of the Croatian as Bošković could not get into any sort of stride. The Brit took the set and moved into the semi-final 6-4, 6-1.
The semi-final saw Jones against Belgian Maryna Zanevska. The first set was fairly close as both players stayed toe to toe. Ultimately it was the Belgian who broke serve and took the lead. Jones tried to comeback in the second set, however once again, it was Zanevska that took the break of serve and booked a spot in the final 6-4, 6-4.
