Brit of the Week
Felix Gill entered the ITF event in Serbia and was the fifth seed. In the first round the Brit drew wildcard entrant David Prasievi. The American was no match for the seed. Gill dominated the first set as Prasievi struggled to hold serve. The second set was even better for the Brit who served up a bagel to the American. Gill moved into the next round easily 6-2, 6-0.
In the second round, Gill was against Serbian Dusan Obradovic. The Serbian stayed with the seed in the first set, before Gill was able to break serve and take the lead. The second set saw the Brit dominate and take a good lead. At that point Obradovic was unable to continue and had to withdraw from the match, leaving the Brit to progress to the next round 6-4, 3-1 (RET).
The quarter-final saw the Brit against the top seed Andrey Chepelev. The Brit and Chepelev stayed close in the first set. Neither could get the break needed so a tiebreak ensued. Gill edged through and took the lead. The second set saw the Brit manage to secure the break of serve needed to knock out the top seed and move on 7-6(5), 6-3.
In the semi-final Gill was against Serbian qualifier Viktor Jovic. The Brit and the Serb battled well in the first set before Gill managed to get the vital break of serve and take the lead. Jovic re-grouped in the second set and broke the seed to level up the match. The final set was a good contest, before Jovic managed to get the break of serve and take the win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
