Brit of the Week
Eden Silva entered the ITF event in Portugal and was unseeded. In the first round Silva drew wildcard Matilde Jorge. The Portuguese tried to stay with the Brit in the first set, but Silva managed to secure an early break of serve to take the lead. The second set was much closer. Jorge stayed with the Brit as both went toe to toe. The Portuguese forced a tiebreak, but found Silva too good. The Brit moved through into the next round in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(3).
The second round saw Silva against third seed Pemra Ozgen. The Turk was no match for the Brit. Silva played well and forced an early break in the first set. Ozgen was unable to break back, and the Brit was ahead. The second set was more of the same as Silva again broke the Turk and booked a spot in the next round 6-3, 6-3.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against the seventh seed Çağla Büyükakçay. Silva dominated the first set and took the lead as the Turk couldn’t get to grips with the game. The second set saw the seventh seed break serve early and levelled up the match. The final set was more of the same for the seed, as the Brit was unable to prevent her from breaking to take the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
