Brit of the Week
Jack Draper entered the ATP Challenger event in France and was the eighth seed. The Brit drew Radu Albot in the first round. The Moldovan was no match for Draper who dominated from the outset. No matter what Albot tried, the seed was equal to it. Draper eased through the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
The second round saw Draper against Tristan Lamasine. The Frenchman had the crowd support at this indoor tournament. Lamasine stayed with the Brit in the first set, before the seed managed to secure the vital break of serve and take the lead. The second set was more of the same, with Lamasine trying to get back on terms and level the match. However, Draper was having non of it, and broke serve to move into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
In the quarter-final Draper was against Gijs Brouwer. The seed dominated the first set, barely putting a foot wrong as the Dutchman struggled to stay with the Brit. The second set was a little closer, as Brouwer played better. However, Draper managed to secure the vital break of serve and move on 6-1, 6-4.
The semi-final saw the Brit against second seed Luca Van Assche. The first set was incredibly close, as neither player gave an inch. It looked to be heading to a tiebreak, before the Brit managed to break the second seed serve and take the lead. The second set was easier for Draper, who broke early in the set and moved into the final in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
In the final Draper was against unseeded Czech player Tomas Machac. The non seed stayed with Draper at the start of the first set, and managed to break the seed and took the lead. The Brit re-grouped and fought back in the second set. Draper levelled up after breaking Machac. The final set started equally, unfortunately, the Czech broke the Brit and took the title 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
