Brit of the Week
Harriet Dart entered the ITF event in Portugal and was the third seed. In the first round the Brit was against Harmony Tan. The Frenchwoman was no match for Dart, who dominated from the outset. The Brit lost only two games as she strolled through 6-1, 6-1.
The second round saw the Brit against Eva Vedder. The Dutchwoman found Dart too strong, as the Brit dominated and took the lead. The second set was a little bit closer but Vedder still struggled with the game of Dart. The third seed eased through into the next round 6-1, 6-2.
In the quarter-final Dart was against German Ella Seidel. This match was closer than the previous two as the German stayed with the Brit at the start of the first set. The Brit managed to break serve early and took the lead. The second set was closer as Seidel managed to stay with Dart. Eventually, the Brit broke serve and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The semi-final saw the Brit against seventh seed Elena Gabrielle Ruse. The Romanian stayed toe to toe with Dart at the start, before the third seed broke serve to move ahead. The second set was more of the same, with Ruse fighting hard to stay with the Brit. However, Dart eventually broke serve and took the match 6-3, 6-4.
In the final Dart was against unseeded Czech Gabriela Knutson. The Brit and Knutson stayed close in the first set before the Czech secured the vital break of serve to take the lead. The second set saw Knutson dominate Dart, who struggled to stay in the match. Eventually, Knutson secured the win to lift the trophy 6-4, 6-1.
