Brit of the Week

Dan Cox entered the ITF event in Spain and was the third seed. The drew Spaniard Pedro Rodenas in the first round. The first set was very close, and looked to be heading to a tiebreak. The Brit, however managed to secure the break of serve right at the end of the set and took the lead. The second set saw Rodenas stay close to Cox, but eventually the seed was able to get the break of serve and move into the next round 7-5, 6-4.

In the second set Cox was against another Spaniard Ignasi De Rueda De Genover. The Brit dominated the first set, and didn’t lose a game to take the lead. The second set was closer as De Rueda De Genover stayed close to Cox. Eventually though, the Brit managed to get the break of serve and move into the next round 6-0, 6-4.

The quarter-final saw the Brit against Frenchman Enzo Wallart. Cox was unstoppable, the Brit dominated the first set. Although Wallart tried hard, he was no match for the seed. Cox eased through the second set without breaking a sweat to move into the next round 6-1, 6-0.

In the semi-final Cox was against the second seed Swiss Leandro Riedi. The Brit was broken for the first time, as the second seed took the first set and the lead. The second set saw Cox regroup and dominate to pull the match level. The final set saw the Brit get off to the better start and break serve. Unfortunately, Riedi had to retire from the match, but Cox moved into the final 3-6, 6-1, 2-0 (RET).

The final saw Cox against the sixth seed Imanol Lopez Morillo. The Spaniard got the break of serve in the first set and didn’t look back. Cox tried to fight back, but unfortunately Morillo was just too good. The Spaniard broke again in the second set to lift the trophy in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
