Brit of the Week
Jasmine Conway was the top seed at the ITF event in Egypt. In the first round the Brit drew Alessia Popescu. The Romanian qualifier held her own in the first set and forced a tiebreak with the top seed. Conway edged through the breaker and took the lead. The second set saw the top seed dominate as Popescu struggled to hold serve. The Brit moved into the next round in straight sets 7-6(7), 6-1.
The second round saw the Brit against Elena Karner. The Austrian was no match for the top seed in the first set as Conway dominated. The second set was a little closer as Karner began to find her game. Eventually, though, the top seed secured the break of serve and moved into the next round 6-2, 6-4.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against An Lin Fang. The unseeded player stayed with Conway in the first set. However, the top seed managed to secure the break of serve and took the lead. The second set saw the Brit break early in the set and take the win to move into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
The semi-final saw the top seed against eighth seed Aliona Falei. The first set was very close as both players went toe to toe and forced a tiebreak. Falei sailed through the breaker and took the lead. The second set saw Conway fight back and break the eighth seed to level up the match. The final set was very close, and again looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, Falei managed to secure the break of serve right at the end to take the win 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-5.
