Brit of the Week

Jay Clarke was the fourth seed at the ITF event in Tunisia. The Brit drew qualifier Giuseppe Tresca. The Italian managed to stay with the Brit in the first set, before Clarke secured the break of serve and take the lead. The second set was easier for Clarke. The Brit dominated and moved into the next round 6-3, 6-2.

In the second round Clarke was against another Italian qualifier Gianluca Cadenasso. The qualifier got off to the better start, surprising Clarke and breaking serve to take the lead. The Brit re-grouped in the second set and broke the Italian to level up the match. The final set saw the seed dominate as Cadenasso struggled to stay with the Brit. Clarke moved into the next round 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The quarter-final saw Clarke against another Italian. This time Gian Marco Moroni. The Italian dominated the first set as Clarke really struggled to get into the match. Moroni took the set with ease. The second set was much closer, and Clarke stayed with the Italian to force a tiebreak. In the breaker the seed dominated and levelled up the match. In the final set Moroni was struggling, and part way through the set was unable to continue. Clarke progressed 1-6, 7-6(2), 3-0 (RET).

In the semi-final the Brit was against top seed Nicholas Ionel. The Romanian suffered an early break of serve in the first set, as Clarke took the lead. However Ionel re-grouped in the second and dominated to level up the match. The final set saw both stay toe-to-toe and it looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, right at the end Clarke secured the vital break of serve to move into the final 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.

The final saw the fourth seed against wildcard Kamil Majchrzak. The Pole broke early in the first set and held on to take the lead. The second set was much closer as Clarke started to find range. Unfortunately, Majchrzak broke serve right at the end of the set to lift the title 6-3, 7-5.
