Brit of the Week

Jan Choinski entered the Challenger event in Cherbourg and was unseeded. The Brit drew qualifier Denis Yevseyev in he first round. The Kazakh stayed with Choinski at the start of the first set, before eventually the Brit secured the break of serve and took the lead. The second set was much easier for the Brit. Choinski dominated Yevseyev and move swiftly into the second round 6-3, 6-2.

The second round saw the Brit against the fourth seed Hugo Grenier. The Frenchman, although higher ranked, struggled with the game of Choinski. The Brit dominated from the start. Choinski barely put a foot wrong as he moved quickly to take the first set. The second set was even better from the Brit. Grenier just couldn’t get into the game at all and was soon on the wrong end of a straight set match. Choinski moved into the next round 6-2, 6-1.

In the quarter-final Choinski was against Gabriel Debru. This proved to be a tougher match for the Brit as the Frenchman stayed with him. The first set saw both players fight hard for the break, and it was the Frenchman that struck first. Choinski re-grouped in the second set though, and managed to break serve and level up the match. In the final set, once again it was the Brit who secured the vital break of serve to move into the semi-final 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The semi-final saw Choinski against the sixth seed Giulio Zeppieri. The Italian secured the vital break of serve in the first set to get ahead. The Brit however, was not going away quietly, and in the second set managed to break the serve of Zeppieri to level up the match. The final set once again saw the seed break serve and move into the final 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
