VERO BEACH, FLORIDA, USA – Blu Baker entered the ITF event and made the final. The Brit defeated the eighth seed in the first round.

Brit of the Week

Blu Baker entered the ITF event and was unseeded. In the first round the Brit was against the eighth seed Bautista Vilicich. The Argentina found Baker too strong in the first set. The Brit dominated and soon had the lead. The second set was a little closer. However, Baker managed to break serve and moved into the next round 6-1, 6-3.

The second round saw the Brit against wildcard Keshav Chopra. The American struggled in the first set as Baker dominated again and moved ahead. The second set was a little closer. Chopra stayed with the Brit at first, however, Baker managed to get the break of serve and move into the next round 6-1, 6-3.

In the quarter-final Baker was against another American, this time Jack Kennedy. The American got off to the better start, breaking the Brit to take the lead. The second set saw the Brit regroup. Baker broke Kennedy to level up the match. The final set saw the Brit break early and move into the next round 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The semi-final saw Baker against Tomas Luis. The Portuguese stayed close in the first set, before Baker broke serve and moved ahead. The second set saw Baker dominate and Luis struggled to stay with the Brit. Baker eased through into the final 6-3, 6-1.

In the final the Brit was against seventh seed William Grant. The first set was very close, as the American and Brit went toe-to-toe. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued. In the breaker it was the Brit that eased through and took the lead. The second set saw Grant break serve and got a lead. However, Baker was not giving up. The Brit pulled back from 4-2 down and managed to break serve again and lift the title 7-6(3), 6-4.

 

 

Challenger & ITF Round Up

Johannus Monday was defeated by Yosuke Watanuki in the second round in Gwangju 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-4.

Oliver Crawford was defeated by Liam Draxl in the quarter-final in Savannah 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-2.

Paul Jubb was defeated by Stefano Travaglia in the first round in Rome 6-4, 6-2.

Toby Samuel was defeated by Giles Hussey in the first round in Abidjan 6-4, 1-6, 4-1 (RET).

Giles Hussey was defeated by Philip Henning in the second round in Abidjan 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.

Victoria Allen was defeated by Katie Swan in the first round in Sharm-El-Sheikh 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Ben Jones was defeated by Erik Arutiunian in the second round in Sharm-El-Sheikh 6-1, 6-3.

Alastair Gray was defeated by Michael Bassem Sobhy in the second round in Sharm-El-Sheikh 7-6(3), 7-5.

Angelica Blake was defeated by Mariia Tkacheva in the second round in Sharm-El-Sheikh 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Amelia Rajecki was defeated by Martyna Kubka in the second round in Sharm-El-Sheikh 6-4, 6-4.

Hamish Stewart was defeated by Saba Purtseladze in the quarter-final in Sharm-El-Sheikh 7-6(2), 6-1.

Katie Swan was defeated by Eva Guerrero Alvarez in the quarter-final in Sharm-El-Sheikh 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

Liam Broady was defeated by Nicholas Ionel in the first round in Santa Margherita Di Pula 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Ella McDonald was defeated by Denislava Glushkova in the second round in Santa Margherita Di Pula 6-4, 6-1.

Jay Clarke was defeated by Gabriele Piraino in the quarter-final in Santa Margherita Di Pula 6-4, 7-5.

Harry Wendelken was defeated by Arthur Reymond in the second round in Angers 6-3, 6-2.

Nicholas Philibert was defeated by Alberto Barroso Campos in the first round in Monastir 6-1, 6-1.

Jodie Burrage was defeated by Gabriela Lee in the first round in Chiasso 6-4, 6-4.

Heather Watson was defeated by Aoi Ito in the quarter-final in Tokyo 6-3, 6-3.
