Brit of the Week
Naiktha Bains entered the ITF event and was unseeded. In the first round the Brit drew qualifier Milan Krish. The Australian struggled against the Brit in the first set, as Bains dominated and didn’t drop a game to take the lead. The second set was closer as Krish started to find her game. However, the Brit managed to secure the vital break of serve and took the victory 6-0, 6-4.
The second round saw Bains against the eighth seed Talia Gibson. The Brit got off to the better start and managed to break the seed to take the lead. Gibson regrouped in the second set though, and stayed toe to toe with the Brit. Eventually, Gibson managed to break serve and level up the match. The final set saw Bains dominate and move into the next round 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.
In the quarter-final Bains was against the third seed Joanna Garland. The first set was very close, with neither player getting the vital break of serve. In the ensuing tiebreak, it was the Brit that edged ahead and took the lead. The second set saw Bains figure out Garland and break serve to book a spot in the next round 7-6(5), 6-3.
The semi-final saw Bains against seventh seed Madison Inglis. The Australian and the Brit went toe to toe at the start, and it looked like a tiebreak was on the cards. However, Inglis managed to break the serve of Bains right at the end of the first set and took the lead. The second set saw Inglis dominate as Bains struggled to stay with the seed.
