Brit of the Week

Anna Brogan entered the ITF event. The Brit was drawn against the eighth seed Olga Helmi in the first round. The first set saw Brogan dominated by Helmi, the Brit only one game. The second set saw Brogan re-group and fight hard. The Brit stayed with Helmi and eventually broke serve to level up the match. The final set was much like the second set, with Brogan breaking to take the match 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.

The second round saw Brogan against Sowjanya Bavisetti. The Indian stayed with the Brit at the start of the set. However, Brogan managed to secure the break of serve and take the lead. The second set followed the same pattern as the first, with the Brit securing the win in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

In the quarter-final the Brit was against the fourth seed Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. Brogan got off to the better start and broke the Spaniard to take the lead. The seed re-grouped in the second set and dominated the Brit to level up the match. In the final set Brogan once again managed to get on top of the seed and book a spot in the next round 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

The semi-final saw the Brit against the second seed Nefisa Berberovic. Brogan and the seed stayed close at the start, before the Brit secured the vital break of serve to move into the lead. The second set followed a similar pattern with Brogan once again breaking Berberovic to move into the next round 6-3, 6-3.

In the final Brogan was against the top seed Antonia Ruzic. The Croatian dominated the match from the outset. No matter what the Brit tried, she was unable to stay with Ruzic. The top seed eased through to lift the title in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
