Brit of the Week

Esther Adeshina entered qualifying at the event in Tunisia. The Brit took out two of the qualifying seeds to make the main draw. In the first round the Brit was against Alexandra Iordache. The Romanian, who is higher ranked, found the Brit too good. Adeshina broke early in both sets and Iordache could not get back into the match. The Brit moved through in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

The second round saw Adeshina against fellow Brit Isabelle Cherny. The qualifier dominated Cherny, who had taken out the fourth seed in the first round. Adeshina barely put a foot wrong as she took the came to Cherny. The young Brit eased through to the next round 6-1, 6-2.

In the quarter-final Adeshina was against Julia Adams. The American got the better start and broke the Brit serve to take the lead. However, Adeshina was not done. The Brit re-grouped in the second set and stayed with Adams. It looked to be heading towards a tiebreak, before Adeshina managed to break serve and level up the match. The final set saw the Brit break the serve of the American and move into the next round 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The semi-final saw the Brit against top seed Lamis Alhussein Abdel Aziz. The Egyptian was too good for the qualifier in the first set. Adeshina could not get a game on the board. However, the Brit re-grouped in the second set. Fighting hard, Adeshina broke serve and levelled up the match. The final set was very close. Adeshina went toe to toe with the top seed and looked to be forcing a tiebreak. Unfortunately, the Egyptian secured the vital break of serve right at the end and took the match 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.
