COVENTRY, UK – GB face a tough challenge against France as they bid for a spot in the Finals later in the year.
Great Britain will face France but face a tough challenge against a very cohesive and experienced team. Missing from the side are British No. 1 Emma Raducanu and No. 2 Jodie Burrage, but team captain Anne Keothavong has called on the recent experiences of Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart, with seasoned campaigner Heather Watson also in the squad.
Olivia Nicholls and Alicia Barnett really shone on their debut, going toe-to-toe with established teams last year to great effect.

Boulter will have some confidence by knowing she has a 1-0 lead over Caroline Garcia on the grass of Birmingham. But indoors in Coventry is not quite the same thing! Boulter started the year well with an ITF title in Canberra but as not really made much of a splash with no main draw back-to-back wins this season.
Garcia’s resurgence at the end of last year carried on into her early season with two finals already this year but had an earlier than expected exit in Miami.

Dart will relish the chance to play up to a home crowd when she takes on Alize Cornet. He Frenchwoman, who had considered retirement, is possibly targeting a farewell at Roland Garros, and her season has not been fantastic on the hard courts, snapping a six-match losing streak since the start of the year once she reached the grey-green clay os Charleston.
Dart dropped back to ITF to get some indoor hard experience but has had a tough start to the year with no back to back wins until then.
Cornet could be the weaker link in the French line-up despite her experience, and if GB want to keep themselves in with a shout, this has to be the must-win match for Day 1.
