Despite losing to Iga Swiatek in the United Cup, it was a very useful marker to see where Katie Boulter is against the world’s best, as she aims to get past the second round in Melbourne for the first time this year. She starts against Canada’s Rebecca Marino.

Playing Styles & Prediction
Boulter will most likely be the last of the Brits to turn in a result (although with the four seasons in one day that Melbourne can offer, who is to say whether the first round schedule will get completed).
Boulter looked good during the United Cup and even though she lost her match against Iga Swiatek, she was able to measure herself against one of the best, and she held her own. That alone should give her the confidence to be the favourite for this match, and to carry it off.
Boulter has worked a lot on her movement – she probably won’t be the best all courter on the block but she has worked hard, and given that Marino is a solid baseliner, Boulter should be able to go toe-to-toe with the comparatively more experienced Marino.
Prediction: Boulter in straight sets.
