Even though Burrage battled her way to the second round in Auckland while Jeanjean only has qualifying to her name, the Frenchwoman boasts some solid statistics going into their opener.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Both Burrage and Jeanjean have had to deal with serious injuries throughout their careers with Burrage even considering quitting the sport for good last year, after being sidelined with injuries to her wrist and ankle.

Coming in with the benefit of a protected ranking, she has gained some good match experience, starting well in Auckland, but bowing out in the first round of qualifying in Adelaide.

Jeanjean has started her season in Melbourne, and brings variety to the table, but as with Burrage, she can lack consistency, partly down to experience and partly due to disruption with injuries.

She may look to disrupt Burrage’s more favoured baseline style of play but Burrage can boast a decent enough backhand to tee off with and hopefully this is the year where the Brit can build up some consistency and make some real headway on the tour.

Prediction: Burrage in three sets.
